From what I can gather, mostly through FB posts, we swept statewide races in NJ and VA and flipped several state legislative seats in our direction. This includes the first transgendered legislator in the country for the VA House. Please use this as an open thread to post other results that interest you, whether elsewhere in the US or closer to home in municipal races.

Lydia Edwards won; really glad about that.
Also really glad to see New Jersey return to its natural Democratic status. Virginia is an even sweeter win though.

The good guys won in Somerville.

So pumped for Krasner as Philly DA. I wonder what the police union there will say.

Not sure how I missed hearing about her before, but Danica Roem is interesting.

I was proud to campaign today for Haverhill’s new Democratic State Representative, Andy Vargas !

The racists took it on the chin in VA. That is deeply satisfying — even as Northam kinda blew the sanctuary cities question. VA went blue all over the map and is maybe going to recounts over control of their legislature.
Easy win in NJ-GOV. Thanks to the contemptuous, preening Chris Christie. We’ll take it.
Will likely win full D control of government in WA.
Walsh wins easy. Congrats — but thanks, though, to Tito Jackson and his supporters for holding power accountable and running on a number of very real and stubborn issues. Olympics, Gran Prix, GE, homeless, school funding, racism, etc — all these things got a hearing because Jackson and co showed up. That’s democracy.
Boston City Council now fully 1/2 women of color. It is a *really* impressive group of people. Well done Boston.

While there were a few disappointments, it was a good day overall for Malden. In addition to defeating Big Charter money in the Ward 3 race for school committee (see other posts on that topic from pablo), we added two very capable Democrats to the city council: David Camell (for a contested open seat in Ward 6) and Stephen Winslow (for one of the three at-large seats), thus retiring incumbent City Councillor David D’Arcangelo (head of the local RCC, former Republican candidate for Secretary of the Commonwealth, and current Director of the Massachusetts Office On Disability). Though these local races are formally non-partisan, Malden government is just a little bluer and more progressive today.
Turnout was mixed across the city. I am proud of Ward 3 which turned out nearly a third of registered voters in a municipal election without a mayoral race.
Diversity of candidates continues to grow–a good sign in such a diverse city. Counting the preliminary election in September, this year featured an openly gay school committee candidate, a hijab-wearing Muslim school committee candidate, several people of color, and an impressive number of women. THANK YOU to everyone who ran and who worked on campaigns this year and CONGRATULATIONS to the winners.
Thoughts in Malden will now turn once again to the City Council’s efforts to hire a Treasurer/CFO. One finalist, Neil Kinnon, stepped down from his City Council seat earlier in the summer to seek the city’s top financial job. Stay tuned.

And my friend Sumbul is the newest Cambridge City Councilor! Got on the first count, right on the heels of Mayor Simmons. Really impressed!

In Lawrence Mayor Rivera thankfully beat back a challenge from Willie Lantigua, whose name belongs nowhere near a ballot. Rivera had the endorsements of both Gov. Baker and Sen. Warren.
In Lowell, the Council will look a bit different with the ticket topped by Vesna Nuon. The non-binding referendum to renovate the existing downtown high school passed overwhelmingly and the Council and School Committee are now respectively 7-2 and 5-1 in favor of the downtown location.

What do the wins in VA and NJ mean for the people there? Higher minimum wages? More funds for education and other social programs? Or what? Not much about that on any of the blogs or the cable tv shows I’ve seen. Seems to be more interest in the sad faces at the RNC and Fox.

It appears from several FB posts that a recount has flipped another VA Delegate seat to team blue by just one vote and that the House of Delegates overall is now exactly tied!
