So is she simply declining re-election or is she leaving sooner? I’m surprised. I thought she might have had higher political ambitions in part because I wound up on her Christmas card list and I am not a constituent.

Sounds like she’s leaving right away. Doesn’t look good. It makes you wonder how long she and Fish have been negotiating.
“Forry, sorry and Fish”?

Sounds fishy to me

What’s with the one day’s notice? Her resignation was announced yesterday and is effective TODAY.
If people aren’t prepared to commit to their full terms, they shouldn’t run.

Clearly laws need to be passed to stop them from always doing this. Special elections are always low turnout affairs that cost the taxpayer thousands to conduct. Far better to force legislators to serve the full term or ban them from taking these lucrative jobs while they are still in office.

I don’t know about a law, but there should at least be more social pressure against it. We don’t know what happened, when this all started, but her commitment to the district (like Carl Sciortino’s, like Robert Wexler’s) should be more than a trivial consideration.

We can’t absolutely force them to stay, but maybe a constitutional amendment forbidding the acceptance of a job during the term for which they were elected at any firm with business before the state (which is what these usually are); or possibly a different selection process such as a conference of that legislator’s party. I’ve also long thought that any seat filled by election after the process has begun for the next regular cycle should not have to stand for re-election in the fall of the same year.
