Whenever we as US citizens agree w/ military actions like weapons deals & air strikes, or when we hop on board with trade deals like NAFTA or the TPP, we should ask ourselves:
“Are we prepared to deal with the people who will seek refuge in the US due to our actions?”

I think she is under-playing the simple draw of money. For instance the Trump tax cuts and jawboning on trade have led to a boom in the continental USA at the expense of Mexico. It’s going to draw people in seeking for work. However I think her approach is the right one in the end. The USA like it or not, does have a place in bringing along the poorest parts of our hemisphere. Doing it as a charity will not work, however maybe the flood of immigrants is the world’s sign that we need to pay attention.
She’s not a socialist, but that’s okay. She’s a bright young woman who can explain what it means to be a Democratic Socialist and her platform is one that an overwhelming number of Americans will support.
Tell that one to the workers at the next Harley plant that closes down or the 60 out of 500 wokers laid off at The Mid-Continent Nail Corporation in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
This commentator is twisting the teeets if Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to advance his own racially exclusive immigration preferences. She is not stating that we should not welcome these people, if anything, she has the most radically pro-immigration and anti-ICE platform of anyone running for Congress this cycle.
What she is doing is rightly calling out the hypocrisy of people like you who argue constantly “we can’t afford to have them” or “they take American jobs” that we reap what we sow. We destabilized governments and economies for a generation in the name of our corporate overlords and Cold War paranoia and now the victims of these policies are coming to our shores since we made their homelands unlivable. This policy crisis is entirely of our own making.
