Legal process explained.
People are asking me various questions about how this process works with regard to the Mueller report and grand juries and so forth.
Almost no one out there in the media is explaining the legal process adequately to people.
Everybody is reading way too much into the Barr letter, and the headlines in which the press unfortunately bought the sliding obfuscations within it hook, line, and sinker.
What it comes down to is that grand juries around the country, no differently than in any other every day case, may still be being presented with evidence from prosecutors regarding this matter. The grand jury’s job is to decide whether it’s more likely than not (“probable cause – 50% plus likelihood) to believe that a crime occurred.
The information that Mueller farmed out to the various courts, is no different in that sense than any other grand jury presentation, and has been, and still is now, apparently being considered by grand juries in various places.
There is absolutely no reason whatsoever that that legal process is in any way procedurally impacted by either the Mueller report, or (certainly not) by Barr’s letter.
In other words, the press, and everyone else other than those directly familiar with criminal procedure, bought into Barr’s letter that any potential conspiracy charges of any kind anywhere against those involved in weird contacts with Russian intelligence are gone.
Not necessarily true. But grand juries are secret, so we’ll just have to wait to see whether indictments emerge.
