We know that the brain is changed permanently by opiate addiction.
So why do judges browbeat defendants and make it out to be a question of will? It’s as though the courts are in a time warp from 10 or 20 years ago. Every day in this country we throw people addicted to opiates into jail on probation violations for testing positive.
It should stop.
