And why did we make the asinine decision to invade Iraq in 2001? Because we ignored the regional experts who knew that the Sunni-Shia divide would doom our intervention to endless chaos and radicalization.
Now, instead of learning from that mistake, Americans embrace an absurd populist movement that FURTHER doubts expertise, rejects intellectualism, and ignores and rejects science, with a complete con man dolt at its head who now has a personality cult.
Al Qaeda, Saudi Arabia, and Putin rejoice.
The European allies my father fought with in the occupation army of Japan are ridiculed and divided by this utter fraud in the White House. Institutions like the EU that have brought 70 years of peace and prosperity – able to be founded in part due to the spilling of the sacred blood of American young men and women – are ridiculed and undercut by the charlatan occupying the White House.
Virtually every policy goal of Putin is being pursued or meekly acquiesced to by that asset of a foreign hostile power.
And now the taxpayers are literally the victims of grand larceny as he lines his own pockets like a tin-pot dictator.
This is all a complete disgrace.
With or without a Senate conviction, impeach him.
It’s just an indictment by the House. That’s all it is, folks. The Senate is the jury.
Madam Speaker, make the cowards go on the record for all eternity as acquitting him. Tell the American people of his crimes and corruption, misfeasance, malfeasance, and nonfeasance. Use your position, and your constitutional tools to penetrate the vacuous evening news with the real story via impeachment. This is your job.
Your calculation that the only way to protect your members in swing districts and therefore our majority, just does not hold water. Look at the history of polls and the Nixon impeachment. Just state publicly that you have no faith that the Republicans in the Senate will be stand-up citizens, and do it anyway. People will understand then that what you are doing is just doing your job, and will fault THEM, not us. Please have some faith in the Americsn people.
If you do not do this, we will all pay the price for your inaction, and it could be a terrible price.
