Andrew Flowers is a friend and former debate team partner from college running to replace retiring State Rep Louis Kafka (D-Stoughton). While his primary opponent is the incumbents former legislative assistant, Andrew is running to shake things up.
“Beacon Hill needs reform and transparency. Massachusetts should be leading the progressive charge to give everyone a fair shot.” – Andrew Flowers
He’s an economist by trade who grew up in rural poverty in Georgia, attended U Chicago on full scholarship, and married the Rev. Anna Flowers, a Walpole native who brought him to her hometown a few years ago.
His top three issues are climate, transit, and housing. The three issues our Governor, Speaker, and legislature routinely ignore in action even if they say the right things. He’s already worked on these issues as an elected member of the Walpole Town Finance Committee and studied them as an economics writer at 538 and Indeed.com. He’s also been a stay at home dad and actively supports the social and racial reconciliation ministries of his wife’s congregation (First Parish Walpole UCC). He’s making a strong effort to reach the more diverse parts of his changing district that have long felt ignored by the status quo.
Like our role model Elizabeth Warren, Andrew is a former Reagan Republican whose economic research on housing and jobs led him to see the light. He’s a real policy wonk with a great personal story and I hope you consider supporting him. Lord knows our legislature could use his expertise.
