Kennedy’s interview with Jon Keller is very good stuff and shows us the kind of active, and engaged Senator he will be for all of Massachusetts. During times of crisis his campaign is reaching out to seniors, sending food to front line health workers, and raising money for the communities of Revere and Chelsea that have been devastated by this response. Their local officials do not hear from Ed Markey, who’s too busy touting a bill his office did not write and he ultimately did not even vote for to gain out of state donors and recast his record of following the party consensus leftward as one of real leadership.
Ed was voting alongside Joe Biden for the Iraq War, the Patriot Act, for NAFTA, for gutting Glass Steagall, and for the Crime Bill. He voted present on going to war with Syria. Meanwhile Joes campaign has brought $100,000 to these two communities that have been terribly impacted which will have a huge impact on keeping families fed and housed through this difficult times. He has been a consistent fighter against ICE and for economic as well a social justice.
I’m reminded of Robert Kennedy who went to the migrant communities in solidarity with Caesar Chavez. The Chelseas, Reveres, and Lawrence’s of our state deserve a Senator fighting for them. As Joe fought not just for Brookline and Newton but Attleboro and Fall River too. This is the kind of coalition building that will actually bring forth a Green New Deal, Medicare for All, and other progressive priorities. Not 40 years of sound ties and memes tailored to the liberal bubble, but a leader who can build the kind of coalition Robert Kennedy started. Latinos, African Americans, immigrants, and organized labor in a coalition of working class voters demanding a fairer America.
