Two MA House seats were up for election today to fill vacancies caused by resignations. In the 37th Middlesex, Dan Sena, a Dreamer from Brazil, has held the seat vacated by Jen Benson who resigned to lead the Alliance for Business Leadership. In the 3rd Bristol, Taunton School Committee member Carol Doherty has flipped the seat vacated by Shaunna O’Connell, who resigned from the House to become the Mayor of Taunton. This follows closely on two Dem flips in the Senate making our record 4-0 in recent special elections, with three of the races being flips.

Clarification, pls… between what you term a ‘flip’ and school committees, state houses and mayoralties your sentence doesn’t quite lay out who landed where…

Carol Doherty is currently serving her 5th term on the Taunton School Committee and was elected last night to fill the vacancy left by Shaunna O’Connell when she resigned her House seat to become Mayor of Taunton. The flip comes from O’Connell being a Republican and replaced by Doherty who is a Democrat.
I see the syntax does appear garbled. I’ll try to fix that.

Unfortunate she is ostensibly in charge of a police force now, but glad to see her brand of politics repudiated in her district.
Christopher says
Do you have specific reason based on her record that it’s not good to have her in charge of a police force, or are you making assumptions based on party?
jconway says
She’s rabidly anti immigrant and anti black lives matter. She shouldn’t be in any position of leadership.
Christopher says
Oh boy!:(
jconway says
Are you defending a Trump Republican? I’m referring to O’Connell not the Democrat I’m happy to see replace her in the legislature.
Here’s her bill against sanctuary cities

Multiple times she’s sponsored capital punishment restoration against “cop killers” while also falsely attacking BLM as anti-cop. Nothing extreme about saying she strongly supports a racist President and his racist agenda. Now she’s in charge of the TPD.

Not at all – notice the frown emoticon and exclamation point.
jconway says
Ah I read that as a sad emoticon. My mistake! Yeah I want her out of government, hopefully the voters can figure that out.

Also for what it’s worth one of our long standing sources of disagreement is the idea that moderate Republicans in the statehouse are better than conservative Democrats. At this point I suggest the former run as independents or Democrats to reject the fascist takeover of the party of Lincoln. That goes for Baker too.
Christopher says
It was sad – as in sad to discover that she has the record you pointed out.
