One Karen I’m happy to elevate is Karen Bass, the latest frontrunner in the Biden Veela takes. I’ve already made the case for Warren and Duckworth, but this Times profile makes me less nervous about Bass. The only downside I see is the Castro connection playing poorly in Florida.

Not looking forward to having to swat away Castro-sympathizer accusations. Even without that she’s meh for me.

Yeah I’m unsure of why she’s getting this much attention, my guess is that the anti-Harris and pro-Warren people are coalescing around Bass. For Markos and Dodd to be on the same page, is very interesting as Fred would say.

Honestly I think the left is going to be 98-99% behind Biden. Hawkins isn’t nearly as well known or on the ballot in as many places as Jill Stein was. Everyone thought Hillary was going to win, everyone thinks Trump can’t be counted out this time around. I think shoring up the center makes more sense which is why I like Duckworth, Demings, and Harris in that order.

VP picks don’t matter electorally. Never have.
This time it is likely a much more important pick because the person will likely be in the top job in 2-3 years if Biden wins the election. But the pick still won’t change a meaningful number of votes. “Shoring up the center” is not something any VP pick will do, despite the hundreds of hours of punditry about the electoral strategy of a VP pick.
That’s why I’d still want Warren, she’s be the best President by far of those whose names have been floated. But I think her chances may have completely dwindled.
Karen Bass . . . seems fine.
I’d say go with the person who has read the room better than most and moved left (although not nearly enough) and who is also good on TV. That’s Harris.
Also, would be nice to have someone on every national show who can be out also talking about their bill (sponsored along with Ed Markey and Bernie Sanders) to give every person $2,000 during the crisis, and have it be retroactive back to March. That could be $20-30K for families in need.

He should pick someone who is ready to be president now. Anything else damages his brand and will be a distraction during the campaign.
This is not a stunt.
Personally, I have trouble feeling that anyone from the House passes that test.
