I’ve seen a couple of news items today indicating that Somerville Mayor Joe Curtatone is making moves toward a 2022 gubernatorial bid. Obviously we’re a long way from the field settling, but I’m always ready for the next race, so I was wondering what there is to know about him. I’ve heard he’s fairly progressive and folks have hoped he would run in previous cycles, but am curious if he has a particular issue profile or mayoral accomplishment.

If you want a negative view, talk to Chris Faraone of the Weekly Dig and the Boston Institute for Nonprofit Journalism. He’s been tracking Curtatone for years and doesn’t like a lot of what he’s seen. Their files will give you a lot of material.
PS: Curtatone has always been cordial to me and I like a lot of what I see he’s done but I don’t live in Somerville and haven’t gone beyond the surface of his career.

The attacks on Mr. Curtatone that I’ve heard from the left allege that he is too close to big-money real-estate interests in Somerville.
I see little or no evidence of that.
I’ve voted for him for Mayor each time I’ve had the opportunity. I like him personally (I’ve met him a few times) and I certainly welcome his candidacy for Governor.
Of course, that leads to the question of who the next mayor of Somerville might be. That’s interesting as well.
