“A poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot full of sound and fury signifying nothing.” William Shakespeare
Resemblance to any person living or dead is purely coincidental. 🙂

Heh — this comment revealed some shortcomings of my highly-prized education in science and engineering. I knew, of course, that the title of William Faulkner’s famous epic was a phrase from Shakespeare. I only knew “Sound and Fury”, though. I’ve even read Macbeth and enjoyed it in performance several times.
This is the first time I’ve seen the entire quote pulled on its own, and it immediately brought up a fabulous and little-known 1975 number by the late Phoebe Snow, herself a fabulous and little-known performer — “Harpo’s Blues”. I invite you to enjoy it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SESmndcKI0,
One of the more memorable verses is this, coming the first time at 1:00 into the number:
“I strut and fret
My hour upon the stage
The hour is up
I have to run and hide my rage
I’m lost again
I think I’m really scared
I won’t be back at all this time
And have my deepest secrets shared”
I did not know, until you posted this, that the first stanza is a homage to Shakespeare. That’s just like Phoebe Snow.
Thank you!
