Scotland is already beating us by having nearly 97% of their energy come from renewables. Particularly through harnessing the wind. It’s even become a flashpoint in their upcoming devolved parliamentary elections and a push for a second independence referendum. Eight years ago it was easier to argue that Scotland would be lost on its own without oil revenues, now it’s becoming a net exporter of alternative energy.

Somebody should tell Bill Gates about Scotland not running into difficulties by supplying over 80% of their energy from renewables without coal or nuclear. They might also want to talk to him about Costa Rica which does the same, primarily through hydroelectricity (and may still be on track to be a carbon-neutral nation by 2022, their goal the last I heard).
