They talk tough. But in reality, they seem to be afraid of everything. Books. Votes. Trans-athletes. Masks. Women making their own health care decisions. The truth. The other. Yes, it’s mean. And power hungry. And nihilistic. But it’s weak and fearful at it’s core. David Plouffe

In other words – bullies!

The willfully ignorant and those who defend them…and we need to be able to see them in our own ranks and call them in, before we (or worse others) call them out.

Now, they’re banning books. Today, it’s Nobel Laureate, Pulitzer Prize winner, and Presidential Medal of Freedom’s Toni Morrison’s “Beloved”. This is the thinly veiled, racist, closing Puke argument in Tuesday’s Virginia Governor’s race.
Why not just be done with it and start burning the books in the public square and go full Fascist?
Christopher says
Pretty sure the AP high school senior whose mother is the star of the TV ad complaining about this can handle “Beloved”.

If we allow these neo-fascists to ban books we might as well just strike the tent and go home because this will be the death knell of democracy as we know it.

I am absolutely certain that this very site banned commentary about and from Alice Walker — arguably as important a black author as Toni Morrison — not that long ago (January 16, 2019 to be precise). The editors at the time determined that her writing was anti-Semitic — and blocked it and discussion of it from BMG (see https://bluemassgroup.com/2019/01/nope-were-not-going-to-do-that-here)
Our own progressive sensibilities are sometimes not that far removed from the complaints we are rightfully making about the Fascist right.
This particular sword cuts at least two ways.

On the mark, Tom. I have a cigar for you.

I actually emailed Charley at the time asking him to reconsider. He was concerned about the direction of our collective commentary, but I had some legitimate questions that never got answered.
