It appears we’ve hit another lull in activity here as it has been a few days since the last diary or comment. I figured I would see what people’s thoughts were on last night’s “State of the Commonwealth“, the final one for Governor Baker. My own impression is that as he often does, he sounded like a Conservative Prime Minister explaining why his way does a better job getting results those on the left would favor. He talked about accomplishments, but was quick to share credit. Yes, he is Republican, but in a time when our democracy is ailing we need two healthy parties, and the Republican Party would be much healthier if it looked more like Charlie Baker and less like Donald Trump.
State of the Commonwealth?
Please share widely!

I notice that while Baker is continuing to claw back $2.7Billion, from Massachusetts residents he is advocating a package of “tax cuts” amounting to about one-fourth that amount.
I’m announcing a similar program exclusively for readers of this blog. For every four dollars you send me I will send you a gift of one dollar. Unlike Baker’s program, my giveaway is voluntary. That’s how nice a guy I am. I don’t know why people keep downrating me.
Both Baker and (I presume separately) Maura Healey will be appearing on WGBH soon, maybe today (Jan. 27). I’m anticipating whether the claw back will be a subject either one will be pressed on.
I’m not optimistic. From what I heard when I was half asleep this morning, I think they each will be on with Jim and Margery. Healey appears regularly with them. I had to stop listening, because each appearance with them brought back bittersweet memories of my late cat Pumpkin giving himself a tongue bath. Is it any different for Baker? I don’t even want to think about it.

Sounds good to me. I’m going to take out a loan and use my stock portfolio as collateral, send you $40 Million and you send me $10 Million as a thank-you. Then I will default on the loan and convince you to tell the citizens of the commonwealth that since I am such a wealthy “job creator” and my economic hardship will ruin the economy, you will hire me to consult on a plan to rescue my company for which I will receive a consulting fee of $20 Million as we agree to use state funds to bail out my company and pay off my debts, saving the jobs of dozens of citizens.
It’s the American Dream!
