W.C. Fields continues to haunt us in ways many had never imagined. Now diablo is confessing in public (with – of course – wiggle room), with the idea that if a crime is open and notorious, the average joe will not see it as a crime.
Anyone who has observed Americans’ overall response to his crimes thus far has to acknowledge that W.C. Fields was correct that a skillful salesman can indeed sell Americans anything – even the end of our republic masquerading as a defense of liberty.
A bitter end.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is not over by a long shot. Remember how you felt in the early morning hours of Wednesday, November 9th, 2016, add to that how you felt watching the events of January 6th 2021. What has changed since these moments? Not a hell of a lot. Sure, we got a bit of breathing room for about four years, with one year behind us, but the next November 9th and January 6th are approaching fast. The same talking heads that tell us it’s over are the same talking heads that told us Trump’s numbers would plateau and he’d be out of the primary next week, or maybe the week after that…yeah, how did that work out?
Again, what has changed since these moments? Trump is still out there. Today, on the Cape I was behind a expensive car with two stickers “Women for Trump” and “He is STILL my President” .
I have every reason to expect and fear another November 9th, January 6th, maybe both…..maybe more.

And let’s not forget that Biden assured his ultra-wealthy donors that “nothing would fundamentally change”…and he and the Corporatist Dems are surely living up to that promise!

Well there you are. The very wealthy are happy. Big Media is happy. We do not have Universal Healthcare. Many of our citizens live in misery that was only imagined in underdeveloped nations. We can’t even budge from a $7.25 minimum wage.

And that’s relevant to this discussion, how? It was also taken out of context. Biden was saying that even with a fairer tax system it’s not like the very wealthy were going to feel it. They would still be pretty wealthy.

We need fundamental change. Trimming round the edges is not the solution. We need inspirational leaders-The Right Wing figured that out and they delivered Trump. What is our counter to this reality?

I’ve had quite enough of “inspirational leaders”, thank you very much.
So far as I can tell, that translates to “you’re either with us or against us”, is always based on passion (which is a synonym of prejudice in this case), and is always accompanied by the threat of force and violence.

Trump inspirational? Like the same way Hitler ‘inspired’ the Nazis to kill babies, Jews, gays, liberals, democracies, or anyone who challenged his power? That’s not inspiration. That’s evil. Never give the same respect to a liar as you do to a truth teller. No matter how much he claims to be an ‘inspirational populist’ realist.

Not even Bernie Sanders has proposed a tax plan that would render the likes of Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk anything other than still super-wealthy after they meet all their tax obligations. Nothing will change for them in the sense that they will not be wondering where their next meal is coming from and they could probably still afford their jets, yachts, and rockets.

I really like WC Fields and saw almost all of his films when I was a kid. Even read a biography of him in which I learned about his ethics, something which has explained to me quite a lot about USAmerican business and politics (and confidence men).
His rules were
You can’t cheat an honest man
Never give a sucker an even break
and
Don’t wise up a chump
You will notice that two of these aphorisms became the titles of Fields’ films.
