- There’s 60% more active oil sites under Biden than in Trump’s last year.
- The USA remains the top oil producing nation in the world.
- The Keystone Pipeline is simply a transportation system. It does not produce oil. Canada remains the fourth largest oil producer in the world and is simply transporting its oil with other systems.
- When George Bush started his first term in office, gas was at $1.49 a gallon. At the end of his presidency it was $3.10 …….If we adjust for inflation to resent a more accurate report, today’s gas prices of $4.25 is not even close to the record hit in 2008 when it was $5.37 – but media headlines still call today’s price “Record Setting” . And while this was under Obama, by the end of his second term, gas was down t0 $2.41. Under Bush, with inflation adjusted dollars, gas was $2.37 at the beginning of his first term and $4.05 a the end. Still, if all one does is listen to the “liberal media”, Democrats want higher oil prices.

“Democrats want higher oil prices.” I thought we at BMG all agreed that higher oil prices were necessary. Looks to me like the media got this right..

Indeed, Democrats do want higher oil prices.
On the other hand, the media can also do a much better job of reporting — for example — the REAL price of oil.
The thread-starter is a good beginning, examining inflation-adjusted prices rather than raw at-the-pump numbers.
None of that historical data includes the “externalized” (happy-talk for “ignored”) components of oil and gas.
Some key externalized factors that should be factored in include:
The actual price of the gas and diesel oil we consume is far higher than the media report to us. Both parties lie about those actual prices. Both parties lie about the relationship between the policy choices they promote and the impact of those policy choices on actual prices.
The media lies to us about all of this because lying is MUCH more profitable than telling the truth.
Like so many other things, it strikes me as unconstructive to attack only one party for these systemic lies and distortions.
Having said that, I still think it’s accurate to say that one party is more likely than the other to eventually confront the facts and choose to build a sustainable future.
That party is NOT the GOP.

Well said Tom. Well said. I can only hope that we find political leaders who can convey this message to the public.
bob-gardner says
That’s pretty faint praise, Tom. ” . . . more likely to eventually confront . . . “

I’m not attempting to be a cheerleader. I’m attempting to describe the situation as I see it.
I wonder if perhaps faint praise might be preferable among a community of self-identified Democrats than relentless and relentlessly harsh criticism of only the policies, people, and practices of the Democratic Party.
bob-gardner says
Yes, that makes sense. Or rather, there is at least a glimmer of a possibility, that someday it will seem like your comment is not totally bereft of any kind of validity, at least in comparison to the other cheerleading on this blog. Time will tell.

The earth creates oil, which is a natural resource. I don’t think anybody believes a pipeline creates oil. What a pipeline does is assist in the process of bringing oil to market to be consumed, which is what some would prefer there would be less of.
SomervilleTom says
A pipeline mainlines prehistoric CO2 captured millions of years ago back into the atmosphere. Think of the pipeline as carrying human misery and suffering from one place to another.
When a maternity ward is on fire, some would prefer that the babies be evacuated before they burn to death.

In my daily audit of Fox News, the BIG STORY is gas prices with a few segments about Ukraine, with the commentators telling their audience that there is something Biden can do about the price of gas but he refuses to do it. Oh, they never mention what that thing is that he can do.
