In his most recent emails* to me requesting a campaign donation to Donald Trump, it reads:
Do you remember Schedule F, John?
When I was in the White House, I took executive action with Schedule F to make it possible to fire federal employees who are bypassing our democracy to advance wokeism and corruption.
I promised to Drain the Swamp and root out the Deep State, and to do that, we need to make it much easier to fire rogue bureaucrats who are deliberately undermining democracy. That is exactly what SCHEDULE F accomplishes, and I want to know what YOU think about it.
Currently, most civil servants benefit from competitive service which are a set of protections and equal treatment regulations established by Congress. This is unlike the public sector which is mostly at-will (ie can be hired or fired for any reason).
Schedule F plans to reclassify (not all but) a large number of civil service positions to be considered “politically oriented” and therefore exempt from competitive service. So, not like the mailman but like the head of the ATF for example.
This allows the President to fire them all at-will for any reason including not aligning to the President’s politics.
Truly scary stuff. The stuff of a tyrannical dictator.
*regarding the emails, I receive about twenty five a day from his campaign; sometimes from him, sometimes his children. Please note that I have never donated a cent to his campaign but when I receive an email offering the chance to win a prize, I search for the small link in the boilerplate that allows me to enter to win without a donation, which is a required by law. It would seem that when I do so, the campaign is unaware of my donation status and only knows that I am a interested voter.
It’s basically a repeal of (IIRC) the Pendleton Act which protects the civil service. If he runs again we need to shove “drain the swamp” back in his face at every opportunity since no President has done more than he has to FILL the swamp.
