this reminds me about rehearsals for my very first show. “Ryan, put your hand down.” “Ryan, do you see where your hands are?” “Ryan, your hands are in the air again.” It took me weeks to realize that less is always more when it comes to hand movement. I swear I was cast the first few times based solely on my voice…
<
p>I always laughed when directors make that direction in rehearsals, because no matter what show I was in, no matter what talent level the cast, there was always someone who wanted to do something with their hands that was utterly ridiculous, without ever realizing it.
<
p>Insofar as Charlie Baker’s concerned, it doesn’t surprise me at all that someone with so little experience as a candidate would look so foolish on videos (and probably on the stump, though I’ve never seen him there — if he’s stumped to this point at all).
<
p>What I do find remarkable is… where the heck are his handlers and what the frak are they doing? Did he hire a single communications person with a shred of (good) experience? Or is he incapable of listening? Either way, unless things change, this signals to me, more than ever, that he’s going no where. He’s been in this race for a few months now… he should at least, by this point, be able to appear in a 1 minute video without looking like a complete novice (or, worse: empty suit).

Seriously? Did Charlie get held back a few grades in campaign school? I can only imagine how horrifically unbearable his TV ads will be.
Since when have socially conservative candidates done well statewide?
<
p>The most socially conservative governor we’ve had in recent years was Cellucci. (Conservative at least while campaigning. Romney pretended to be a social moderate during his initial run, and didnt take the hard right-hand turn until after he started visiting Iowa)
<
p>Fiscal conservatism and social moderatism is what will win in 2010.

How is a pro-choice Republican in favor or gay marriage, running with an openly gay LT. Gov candidate socially conservative?

The other candidates better wear helmets to the debates. They could wind up with a black eye if CB gets excited!
