if Obama’s guys have their way: Can These Men Fix the Deficit? Obama has appointed The National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, a.k.a. The Social Security Commission, a.k.a. The Cat Food Commission, to solve the dire problem of Social Security going broke. Of course, the very premise of this game – that Social Security is going broke – is just crap made up by Republican lunatics. As Paul Krugman explains: OK, the immediate problem is the statements of Alan Simpson, the commission’s co-chairman. And what got reporters’ attention was the combination of incredible insensitivity – the “lesser people”??? – and flat errors of fact. But it’s actually much worse than that. On Social Security, Simpson is repeating a zombie lie – that is, one of those misstatements that keeps being debunked, but keeps coming back. Specifically, Simpson has resurrected the old nonsense about how Social Security will be bankrupt as soon as payroll tax revenues fall short of benefit payments, never mind the quarter century of surpluses that came first. … So what does it mean that the co-chair of the commission is resurrecting this zombie lie? Jerry Wasserman for State Representative
Hello to the BMG community,
I’m Jerry Wasserman and I am a candidate for State Representative for the 13th Norfolk District (Needham, Medfield, and Dover). I’m running because I want to continue fighting for the local community and getting real results. I know how to do this job right and I’ll be an effective, progressive voice at the State House.
Vote Youk!
Justice will prevail! OK, I happily admit this isn’t the most important issue facing the planet, but let’s face it, there’s no way Nick Swisher should make the All-Star game ahead of Kevin Youkilis. Youk even has more triples and steals, and no one ever said he was the Greek God of Speed. (Read Moneyball for more on this.) Anyways, folks, earlier today, my boss John Kerry {I’m John Kerry’s Director of New Media} sent out an email to his 3 million supporters, pleading the case for Youk. Here’s Peter Abraham in the Globe: Here’s an e-mail supporters of John Kerry received: Hope you had a terrific Fourth of July — and I hope you’ll afford me what the Senate calls a “point of personal privilege.” All 3 million of you in the johnkerry.com community have done incredible work these last seven years on some of the biggest fights of our lives. This isn’t one of them. But it’s not small potatoes either if you’re a Red Sox fan. (If you’re a Yankees fan, read no further.) Kevin Youkilis of the Red Sox is an All Star in anyone’s book. He plays the game the way it’s supposed to be [...]
