During a hearing of the House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee today, Chairman Patrick McHenry (R, NC-10) ended the hearing by calling Elizabeth Warren a liar.
Warren had stated that the Chairman’s staff and her, after a late-night, last-minute schedule change, had agreed to let her leave by 2:15 to meet other obligations. You can see the look of shock on her face when he outright calls her a liar.
Later Representative John Yarmuth (D, KY-3) tells Warren “They’re afraid of you.” Here’s the link to the NY Times coverage of the spat. WSJ has coverage, too.
UPDATE (by David): Here is the video. First, the truly appalling exchange with McHenry, who appears to be a Class A putz, and Warren. Kudos to Rep. Cummings for jumping in.
And here is Rep. Yarmuth’s excellent commentary on why the whole thing happened.

I don’t know who nauseates me more, elected representatives who act this way or voters who put them and keep them in office.

at least when it comes to embedding youtube videos.
Maybe the editors can convert this link

to an embedded video.

You have to go all the way to the end of the video until you see the selection of related videos and a “share” option. You choose that and eventually get to “embed”. That’s what I did anyway. Here goes:
Looks OK in the preview. Let’s see what happens when I submit…

Editors, I believe we have a problem embedding YouTube in comments.
David says
Let’s see if that embed worked….
David says
So to embed a video in comments, you need to use the “old” YouTube embed code – the one that starts with the “object” HTML tag. iframe apparently doesn’t work. There’s a checkbox on the YouTube page that will bring up the old code. Try it and see if you can make it work.
Jasiu says
Here goes:
Both techniques worked in preview. I believe there was something else I noticed before (maybe bullet lists?) that showed up OK in the preview but not in the actual comment.

McHenry has to apologize and someone else should be appointed Chair of the committee. And as far as ‘them’ being afraid of Warren, no wonder – the hammer of accountibility looms.
David says
Sadly, he will probably be cheered by leadership for his behavior rather than chastised. He’s a thug.

I appreciate Yarmuth’s sentiments, but I’m guessing it’s not kosher for a Democratic rep to “apologize on behalf of” a Republican chairman. Reverse the situation, and we’d be put out by his speech.
