Massachusetts voters need and deserve to be represented by a senator who will stand up for us, and stand up for women’s health, no matter what.
That’s why we – the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts – sent a letter to Senator Brown this morning to express our disappointment in his failure to exert a leadership role on women’s health and convince local Republican leaders to keep an extreme women’s health plank out of the Massachusetts Republican party platform, as the Globe reported yesterday.
As I’m sure you know, this plank was recently adopted by the National Republican Party at its convention in Tampa and is the most restrictive abortion platform in history. Although Senator Brown sent a letter to national GOP leadership asking them to “recognize the views of pro-choice Republicans” in the party platform, he quickly abandoned his advocacy around women’s health and said “it’s up to others now” to take action.
Now two weeks later, Senator Brown is still on the sidelines as the Massachusetts Republican Party prepares to adopt dangerous and out-of-touch principles that have no place in Massachusetts.

Sen Brown’s muscles and strength are for triathlons not for his constituency. His voting record in the Senate gives him an 80% approval by major anti-abortion groups. The only way to have it both ways is hide from his record. As the campaign heats up he will not be able to continue to do this. I’ve always thought this quote from Massachusetts leading anti-abortion group (which, again, endorsed Brown in 2012) sums it up well:
