Saturday was an amazing day. We had an army of volunteers out there talking to voters about electing Elizabeth Warren and other Democrats across the state.
Elizabeth Warren Field Director Mike Firestone thanks all of the thousands of volunteers who have been out knocking on doors and talking to voters. The message is, “We’ll win this election through personal conversations and turning out our communities. Your work helping people get to the polls is going to make the difference.”
Every time I go knocking on doors, I see that I am making a difference. On Saturday I spoke with a newly registered voter who knew that he wanted to vote for Elizabeth Warren, but told me that he didn’t know when the election was or where he voted. Later on I spoke to someone who talked about Scott Brown being an “independent.” He asked about a picture of Scott Brown shaking hands with Barack Obama. I talked about the difference between the Republican agenda and the Democratic agenda. Based on what he told me, the Democrats now have his vote.

Knocking on doors yesterday in Waltham, I met a young mother with a four year old daughter. She said she needed to get a baby sitter in order to vote, and I told her that there was no problem bringing her daughter to watch while she voted. She did not know that information, and she was pleased.

Going to vote with each parent each is one of my most vivid childhood memories. Schools were closed in NJ and since my b’day is November 7th (no need to wonder what I want this year) the day was special too.
It felt almost sacred to pull that curtain closed and, after my parent lifted me up, pull the lever.
I think that is one reason why I vote in every election, no matter how off-year, and why I think it’s a great thing to take children to the polls. Voting is like nothing else in the world and children get it. I believe kids who go to vote grow up as adults who vote.
