Okay folks, a little background. Alan Dershowitz is a very funny looking and very obnoxious man who is also very smart on the constitution. Unfortunately for funny looking and obnoxious Alan, he grew up in Brooklyn. Lots of everyone in Brooklyn Especially the Irish. Big heads, light skin, freckles.
Now who’s kidding who? We know Alan must have the shit kicked out of him many a time as a kid. Mostly for reasons related to his mouth. Sure he was a Jew and sure he was funny looking. But if that was the criteria in Brooklyn for beating people up years ago than nothing would ever get done. And yes I am sure he was the victim of real and hateful anti-semitism. The stuff that stays with a kid for life.
Now as the potato heads were pummeling this obnoxious little twit I am sure they let out some anti-semitic remarks. Much like when beating up fat kid “for cause”. He still gets called a fat shit although his weight and appearance had nothing to do with it.
I say this because The Dersh is blinded by hate for Irish Catholics and especially those from South Boston. In his mind everyone whoever caused him a problem lives in that “Irish ghetto”.
Remember 75 State Street? Here’s what happened. Thomas Finnerty, a capable lawyer in downtown Boston and former law partner of Bill Bulger was hired by residential real estate tzar Harold Brown to help get the many approvals needed from the city of Boston for an office building he was constructing in Boston, 75 State Street.
Ray Flynn was mayor at the time and Finnerty knew him and his way around city hall. No state issues involved. Bill Bulger not even needed to make a phone call on this. Now being known as the Senate President’s friend and former law partner helped get phone calls returned. (Now before everyone starts screaming about this think about reality)
Anyway after the hundreds of millions of dollars were spent on the building Brown, known to screw creditors, complained about paying the full amount of Finnerty’s bill, $250,000. Sounds like a lot, doesn’t it? Well it wasn’t. Considered by all a reasonable amount for the work at that time.
When Finnerty wasn’t getting the money his office earned he sued. Harold Brown was represented by Harvey Silverglate and Alan Dershowitz. They immediately responded that Finnerty didn’t earn this money but he shook Brown down and Bulger was part of it.
This opened up the whole can of worms known as 75 State Street. The feds investigated it. Corrupt F.B.I. agent John Morris lead the charge. He hated the Bulgers and testified that he illegally tried to have Whitey murdered by having his bitch at the Globe, Kevin Cullen, telll the world Whitey was an informer. Morris was pissed because Whitey was interfering with the business of his Top Echelon Informant Sammy Berkowitz, the Presidentially pardoned big time bookie from Chelsea. (How did Morris informant get a Presidential Pardon. It sounds like that was one of the things Berkowitz wanted in return for his, ahem, cooperate. Who made it happen?)
So Morris feeds the press leaks and phony innuendo about Bulger on this. As hard as everyone tried they couldn’t get anything on Bulger.
And don’t forget this resulted in response from a civil suit which was really was a collection case. Harold Brown paid the entire amount Finnerty sued him for and also told the press that Finnerty was “a good guy”. The investigation closed because no crimes were committed but the Globe continued it fool its readers into believing Bulger was part of a conspiracy to extort businessmen.
Then we had the Judge Paul Mahoney dog and pony show. Paul Mahoney retired a few years ago after a long and successful stint as a district court judge. He sat mostly in Somerville District Court. Mahoney was a former assistant district attorney and knew his way around the courthouse more than 90% of the people nominated for the job do. Unfortunately he also worked for Bill Bulger as chief of staff to the Senate President. Big job. Important job. Only the very capable can do it well. Mahoney did it well. Same as he did as assistant district attorney and lawyer representing clients.
Well Derschowitz couldn’t stomach Mahoney getting the judgeship. He sold a bill of good to Silverglate and another lawyer and the three of them marched in to the Governor’s Council meeting on Mahoney’s appointment and cried foul. This was based on no more than the fact that Mahoney was from South Boston and worked for Bulger. That was their only argument. Serious. Corrupt by definition.
Silverglate has distance himself from the Dersh over the years. He sees Alan has been seliing him a bill of goods when it comes to all things Bulger.
I give this background because it should also be noted that Alan Dershowitz and Globe columnists Jeff Jacoby are tight ass-friends.
And out of the blue today Jacoby kicks the living crap out of Bill Bulger for being Whitey’s brother. Jeff likes to ignore the fact that for some reason the corrupt F.B.I. wrongfully decided Billy was corrupt long before Whitey’s first indictment. Billy knew they weren’t interested in finding Whitey (and they didn’t, a DEA agent did) and only interested in tripping him up and then indicting him for perjury.
And it is highly highly highly doubtful that Whitey allowed family any knowledge of his whereabouts etc.
Also there are laws on the book protecting family members from charges of aiding other members running from the law. And, unlike the unabomber, Whitey was not on a killing spree. Plus, as anyone who has been closely following the trial or reading Matt Connolly’s blog knows full well that many agents are duplicitous and result oriented, truth be damned.
So, during the past two weeks the country has learned more about the unholy alliances the feds make with people for reasons few can fathom. John Martorano giving totem pole hearsay as he boasts of killing at least 20 people by pulling the trigger. Whitey did not. John won the Price is Right grand prize by playing along. Life is damn good for Martarano.
We also know that Steve Flemmi is living the life of Riley in a happy horse shit federal pen as opposed to being on death row somewhere. Flemmi likes to kill girs. Especially girlfriends. Abundant evidence of this in his history. No evidence of this regarding Whitey. Yet the feds say, and all buy it, that Whitey killed the two Debbies.
These are the people a misguided and emotionally disturbed Fred Wyshak lays with.. He has spent the past 25 years obsessed wih Bill Bulger and his false belief that Bill and anyone else with last name Bulger are vile people.
Wyshak has had tragedy in his life and obviously chasing demons of his own. And unfortunately the Justice Department is not like other places where over-the-top employees are reigned in.
Ask the poor state trooper who has evidence Martorano and Pat Nee are currently running part of Boston’s organized crime. He had photos and everything. Unfortunately Freddie Wyshak made sure this trooper’s career is ruined and branded him a liar.
Some wonder why Fed is involved in the highly immoral prosecution of former probation commissioner John O’Brien. Well it is obvious to everyone who follows the Fred Dog. He wanted a Bulger. He could taste a Bulger. Paul; Ware blatantly lied about a Bulger in his report and recommended an indictment. Ware was a former AUSA and well seasoned in making a case based on nothing other than you don’t like the guy.
Well Ware lied and sold Wyshak a bill of goods on Probation. (Much like Dershowitz did to Silverglate) But unlike descent people who would walk away when they see it isn’t what they were told Wyshak doubled down. He added more charges than one could imagine on O’Brien after the state court cleared him on more or less the same charges.
(Ware was also the toady called in by the SJC to put the knife in Maria Lopez. Wares firms makes hundreds of thousands of dollars representing the SJC on all sorts of stuff. You see how it works?)
Wyshak has a history of destroying those he works with who call him on him on his unethical and illegal ways. He turns the table and calls a grand jury to investigate those reporting him.
Back to Jacoby, he works for the Globe, he’s a tight ass friend of the Dersh and the best he could do was scream that Bill Bulger had the audacity to show up at Paul Cellucci’s funeral.
Just to be clear. Paul Cellucci was a good guy. Good husband and family man. Good to people. He was also a gambler. Nothing wrong with that but Celluch had the bug. So much so that he ended up owing the wise guys more than a half a million dollars.
That caused problems for us the people. Paul caught up as best he could. Huge mortgages etc. But always palying catch-up.
But the BIg Dig was the answer. So wasn’t the movie industry. Look the other way and let the guys do what they have to do.
That’s where the money went in the Big Dig and why. Everyone knew it at the time and knows it now. I’m glad I didn’t see it mentioned in the paper after his death but don’t tell us for one second that Billy BUlger didn’t have the morality to be at his memorial.
Fuck You Jeff Jacoby!
It’s so full of errors that correcting it would be a full-time job.
Just for starters, the $250 thousand that you quote is the figure that Finnerty settled for. He wanted $1.8 million.
When asked about why anyone would pay him that amount of money Finnerty said nothing about Ray Flynn and nothing about knowing his way around city hall. Finnerty instead said that his own sterling reputation lent a credibility to the project that was needed because Brown’s reputation was so bad.
And Ernie, you forgot the part about Finnerty and Bulger splitting the $250K down the middle. Funny how you have such vivid memories of Alan Dershowitz’s childhood but you don’t remember that.
Like I said, that’s just for starters. Your post is so full of errors and lies that correcting it piece by piece would take forever. So take the rest of the day off, have a good cry about Senator Bulger’s hurt feelings and start again Monday.
Didn’t take long for that civil libertarian pose to fall away, did it?
First off Bob, I thought you were going to give me shit for the many typos and a few non-sequiters. I’ll fix them after I rip you new one. Had no time before. I pretty much type my stream of conscious shit and then push “publish”. Yup, I show you how the sausage is made.
But anyway Bob, there was a contractual agreement for set figures based on standard legal and industry parameters Now when the time came for the biggest share of it Brown cried “extortion”. (BTW Brown later served federal time for bribery and recording private meetings of tenants.
Now here’s the part I want you to pay attention to Bobby. Because Brown breached the business contract he now is sued for the contract as if there were no contract. So Finnerty can go back and charge a reasonable fee on an hourly basis which of course is substantially higher – standard practice.
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY he then can sue for treble damages. As in three times what is he owed plus 12% per annum from the date of the breach. That’s the first date Brown didn’t make that payment.
So yes, of course Finnerty sued for all that money. He didn’t represent himself, he hired a business litigation attorney who would have committed malpractice if he didn’t
As for the Bulger loan? First up, You have me here. Sincerely. I should have mentioned it, I meant to, it’s a gaping hole in my rant and hurts my credibility for not mentioning it.
But I’m glad you mentioned it so I can give me it more space here than above.
Bill Bulger and Finnerty are same age and same grade since first or second grade. They grew up in the same projects near each other. I think Finnerty went to B.C. and B.C. Law like Bulger. Not sure. Notice the difference between their age association and the bullshit sold to us by the feds and Globe that John Connolly and Whitey were friends from the projects. Whitey is 12 years older than Connolly. Billy is five or six years.
Anyway, you either get it or you don’t. Billy needed money. Needed it bad. Real bad. He had problems. Real problems. He had a monkey on his back and he needed a fix bad. He was Jonzin’ man, Jonzin’.
What was the addiction? Nine fucking kids you idiot. Nine goddamn kids and none of the little bastards joined the army or took off to Alaska. Ingrates! They all wanted to go to college.
(BTW isn’t it funny how Paul Cellucci got away by explaining his $800,000 debt on having two kids at Harvard. HUh? But Billy have nine fucking kids and getting @250,000 from a friend who had to loan is no excuse.)
Nope the old man fucked up. Fucked up big time. He insisted on educating the grubby sons of bitches and they took to it.
Finnerty was investigated every which way there possibly could have been something illegal. What should of been a closed file after a cursory glance corrupt F.B.I. agent John Morris pushed it with the Globe and leaked selective information. Remember Morris was all about hurting Whitey and Billy was collateral damage.
It was around this time that Fred Wyshak came here from New York and needed to feed his ego. He saw Whitey and saw Billy and convinced himself Billy was all evil.
Anyway, if u don’t understand the loan then you don’t understand people. Also it was a solid loan. A senate president? Any senate president. You know that loans good. Income goes way up after leaving.
I’ve been going on and on here, but anyway Bob, thanks for pointing out I forgot to mention the loan.
And yes Finnerty lost his bar ticket a few years ago. Bulger related of course. The best they could do since Wyshak had him on a target list for the past 25 years. That’s a dead end for Wyshak.
NOW AS FOR YOU BOB GARDNER, as you recall I mistakenly believed you were an attorney and called you on being an idiot on most of the crap in the comments you added to my posts.
Then one day you complained when I said you should know better. Remember Bob. You said you were a retired postal worker from the south shore. You said you don’t have connected friends or dogs in any race. You were just another slob with an opinion. Like me. Remember?
Then I apologized and encouraged you to keep on keepin’ on. After that you never heard me say a bad word about you, did you Bob?
But now. WTF Bob. You seem to have too much selective information. Who you workin’ for Bob? Who is it? Did Clemenzo send you? Don’t make me pull this trigger Bob, don’t make me. Who sent you?
Jacoby and Professor Torture have some agenda in attacking William Bulger. Their primary motivation, as Ernie point out, seems to be the most logical explanation, hate.
The Whitey trial is simply a tragic spectacle. The universal observation of the evidence is that blame is due in many directions. But Jacoby’s malicious focus on William Bulger is an untenable and opportunistic misdirection.
Jacoby’s abuse of discretion is not even original. It is suuspiciously consistent with the tactic of the US Attorneys who want the public to focus on anything but the systemic problems. Dozens of Department of Justice employees were taking bribes and/or enabling it. Some DOJ employees convicted innocent men and killed others. Ma State Police and local police were not much better. Instead of cleaning the skeletons from the closet, the Ass US Attorney Wyshak has launched a campaign to redirect blame for these epic failures of federal law enforcement to police itself. Wyshak employs media types like Carr, Jacoby, Murphy and Cullen to focus all blame solely on Whitey for all organized crime, John Connolly for all law enforcement for corruption, and he throws in William Bulger for journalistic flavor.
Instead of Wyshak immunizing up the chain in the DOJ to get to the top of the corruption, he contradicted basic law enforcement strategy and immunized down. This misdirection saved his beloved DOJ severe embarrassment. To get Whitey, Wyshak immunized and bribed dozens of the worst criminals in our nations history and presents them as reliable witnesses. The result has an utter perversion of justice and a violation of Wyshak’s oath of office. Wyshak has released unknown numbers of mass murderers to live among us just to achieve career goals. In the process, we learned Wyshak has concealed credible evidence that his immunized witnesses are taking advantage of their protected legal status to continue their criminal activities. The corruption in federal law enforcement seems as prevalent today as it was forty years ago.
Wyshak’s zeal to nail Irish Catholics is paralleled only by that of Jacoby. Wyshak obviously leaked William Bulger’s to the Globe. It is his midis operandi to indict Bulgers when he can and to smear when he can’t. If Wyshak had an iota of evidence that William Bulger was blameworthy for anything, he would have indicted him in a heartbeat. The fact that William has never been accused of a crime is proof beyond a reasonable doubt that he is the cleanest guy in the world. Instead, Wyshak relies on Jacoby’s shared contempt for Irish Catholics and feeds Jacoby transcripts he can take out of context to smear William.
Jacoby’s column shows he is owned by hate.
You’re just digging yourself a bigger hole.
Contrary to what you said, Harold Brown did not serve Federal time for bribery and spying on his tenants. For the bribery he was fined $25,000. And he did spy on his tenants, which served as an issue for his tenants to organize around and set back his efforts to raise their rents. The federal time you allude to exists only in your imagination.
Likewise, the convoluted story you told about triple damages and standard contracts is garbage. Finnerty wanted a ten-percent interest in 75 State St. That’s what he sued for. He was paid $500K (which he split with Bulger), and then Brown and Finnerty settled the suit for another $200K.
Everything in your post and in your two comments is garbage. The 75 State St. story is confusing enough without having to dig through your mess of lies.
As for me, I don’t work for anyone and I’m not connected to anyone. This stuff was widely reported at the time and much of it is archived so anyone who is interested in telling it like it is can easily check the facts.
Why the hate Bob? The Globe is molding your brain to so you think this. Selective facts and not the true story.
This is where you got it from Bob, right?. Not sure about the ten percent. Probably did. I bet Eddie McCormick told him to do that. But not illegal or immoral. Whatever he asked for it was in the realm of standard business operations.
And if he asked for it Brown didn’t agree to it. Instead he agreed to pay the sum he reneged on and then when it was put into collection (law suit) he was forced to pay up i full.
Really Bob, stop it. Whoever is whispering in your ear is a putz.
because that’s who said his share of 75 State St. was 10 per cent.
Just to be clear, I don’t think Finnerty is a putz. In fact, it’s not up to me to judge Finnerty, Brown, Bulger or anyone about 75 State St.
What I am saying is that you are lying about 75 State St. and that everything you have posted so far on that subject is a lie.
You get all bent out of shape when anyone uses the term “Douche Bag” and you end this post with:
I make a motion that you be suspended yet again (an for a longer period this time)! Do I hear a second?
I want to see is the next chapter. I honestly can’t follow the slightly incoherent but intriguing rant that eb3/ernie has shared with us, but I’d like to see the movie. Dirty Boston over on facebook has some great pictures for backdrops
