I am so excited to announce today my candidacy for Governor of Massachusetts. Our campaign is starting with a three-day, 18-stop tour all over the Commonwealth. We are coming out of this tough economic crisis, but many families are still struggling. The reason we are going to emerge from this and build a better future is because of our people. The same people I’ve had the privilege to serve with and for throughout my career. The people of Massachusetts are tough, smart, resilient, and we care about each other. These folks are the reason I’m running for Governor. You need someone who will fight for you. Someone who will take your side. I’ve done that as Attorney General and I’ll do it as Governor.
Massachusetts is poised to take off, and we can either grab this moment and move forward together, or fall behind. We need to rebuild our economy in a way that gives everyone the opportunity to succeed. And we need to launch the next phase of education reform in this state so that every child and every adult has the skills they need to compete in a global economy. That is why I am running for Governor. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work across this Commonwealth. I look forward to hearing from all of you as we come to your communities over the coming days and months.

Cordially,
Martha

It’s good tohear from you, Martha. I was proud to work for you when you ran for the Senate. But, I am not with you for Governor.
I still haven’t recovered from the Aaron Swartz situation, and I am deeply troubled by the over-reach of prosecutors. For example, Martha, you should not have used the Newtowne shooting as justification for expanded wiretapping legislation.
Neither you, nor your buddy Carmen Ortiz should run for higher office.

“The People of Massachusetts Are Tough, Resilient–and Poised for a Brighter Future”
Reminds me of the whole American Exceptional-ism debate.
So is Martha implying that the people in other states are not and Tough, Resilient? It seemly like typical pandering to me. Yeah, we all want to hear we are tough, resilient but can you back it up with data?
Screw our Vermont neighbors to the north. Their a bunch of socialist single payer supporting sissies. (satire)

It is true enough that many Americans like to tout their “exceptionalism.” However AG Coakley’s remarks could be interpreted that this state has much to feel proud about and should continue to improve on that. We are the 3rd most prosperous state, have low serious crime rates, a world class education system, have a near 100% health insured population, an electorate that is the only state with over 50% of its citizens college graduates. We are a leader in gay rights and energy efficiency. But we can certainly do better. Yes, compared to other sates we have a pretty darn good record and we don’t need politicians like Charlie Baker messing it up.

Sure beats the denigration we were subjected to courtesy of our last Governor.

But more to the point, we’re supposed to think that it’s Coakley that is “tough, resilient, and poised for a brighter future.”
Tough prosecutor
Resilient loser to Scott Brown
Still running for higher office

It’s sort of like neurolinguistic programming, to get our brains in tune.
I can’t say that any of those characteristics endear her to me, though.

I was with Martha from Medford to Hyannis yesterday (with stops in Brockton, Attleboro, Fall River and New Bedford in between) and the response in coffee shops, diners and on the street was very positive. I’m looking forward to going from Newton to North Adams today with her, and listening as she talks to people about the important issues facing our Commonwealth.
Full Disclosure: I am working on her campaign for Governor

As I wrote when she and Capuano were running in the Democratic primary for US Senate a few years ago, Martha Coakley says a lot of things, but she has a record in one field: prosecutor/DA/Attorney General. When it comes to the core responsibility of that job track – justice, law, enforcement, and the criminal justice system – her record has been, by Massachusetts standards, scary and disturbing.
Martha Coakley has strongly supported the Patriot Act, antiterrorism “fusion centers”, and other attacks on privacy rights.
Martha Coakley has championed harsh punishment, including when innocent people are railroaded and she apparently chooses not to see that.
Martha Coakley has opposed liberalizing onerous drug laws.
As Attorney General, has presided over a criminal justice system that does a tremendous amount of collateral damage. She’s been the person most in a position to change that. A position where we really needed a leader. Yet she has chosen to lead on other things, and neglect reform of the terribly destructive force she currently presides over.
We can nominate someone better.
