Deval has done a great job. So, why aren’t people talking about Deval running for president?

…who has ALSO insisted she is not running.

The 2016 campaign may be a rough one for whomever the Democrats nominate. He and his advisers may reckon that it would be especially difficult for a liberal black Democrat from Massachusetts to gain traction. Further, he and his advisers may be thinking that four years of Republican government might be an effective way to prepare the electorate for a 2020 run by Mr. Patrick.
Perhaps the paradigm of the recent papal transitions is instructive — a conservative interim pope with a short term to provide space and time for the legacy of his predecessor to mellow, followed by the choice of a far more disruptive successor who promises to push for radical changes.
Presidential candidate Deval Patrick may benefit greatly by running against and being compared to a sitting conservative GOP president than by comparison to Barack Obama.

And I am starting to fear Clinton could be real vulnerable to a “reasonable” Republican alternative-particularly Jeb, Mitt or Christie. Fortunately, the base should prevent one of those from being nominated. But the balancing act of distancing herself from an increasingly unpopular President while forging her own identity is going to be quite difficult as John McCain found out. And Obama’s numbers are where Bush’s were at roughly this time. Not saying it’s fair, but like McCain, Hillary has a distrusting base and a bad incumbent.
Also, ignore everything I said above since this should be a thread about two guys I worked really hard for, first progressives I saw win office, who have performed decently under frustrating circumstances. Many self inflicted, but it’s also very hard to govern as a liberal and to be the barrier breaker at the same time. Both have done admirably under the circumstances and this was a lighthearted way to end it.

There has been talk, and occasional articles in the news and the blogs, about the idea, but the main damper on such coverage has been Deval Patrick’s adamant insistence that he’s taking some time off from politics and definitely not running for president in 2016. Seems reasonable.
