do Masster List and Comm Magazine’s The Download. Occasionally, I look at State House News Service. Not sure I need another source.

…was Sen. Warren not ready to commit to a second term. If she takes a pass that will be at least the third open nomination for the 2018 convention, the others being Gov. and LG and more if current constitutional officers try to move up.

It’s customary at this stage in the game to demur and say you are only focused on what is ahead. It leaves open the possibility that she may serve in a future cabinet or stay put. Seeing as how her clear cut ‘no’ that she was not running for president was insufficient for the media, I am unsurprised they are making her ambiguity into a refusal to gin up controversy.

I may be the only one who thought “I have no plans to run for president” — Warren’s standard line for months — wasn’t a “clear cut ‘no'”. That, like this answer, is pretty standard to avoid the appearance of being too ambitious.
General Sherman showed how to answer that question with finality over a century ago: “I will not accept if nominated and will not serve if elected.” Warren didn’t do that for months…so the media kept asking. Granted, she’s definitively said no more recently, but her no wasn’t clear cut for some time.

What struck me as silly was the verb tense parsing. I don’t think an incumbent sounds too ambitious to say of course I’m seeking re-election.

Except it’s an email and there aren’t continuous updates throughout the day.
