Will this slow The Donald down? I doubt it but you never know.
Anyway I bet those self-assured prep school wasps and wannabes at the Globe editorial board yelled a collective “Good for Donald” when they heard the news.

Tell me how John Kasich will not be the Republican nominee? If he is, he’s our next president. No doubt about it.
The difference between him running against Hillary or Bernie is when the majority of Dems and many independents vote for Kasich instead of Bernie they will do so with a slight hesitation.
When these same people vote for Kasich over Hillary they’ll practically be giddy. Can’t wait to go home, wait for pols to close, and watch Hillary’s concession speech.
Then the best part will be the finger pointing after the election. Her loss will not be the fault of anyone with last name Clinton. That’s for sure.
Buh Buh Buh Biden

And he can creep into third after Trump and Ted. Another 5th place for Jeb! gets him out of the race and his money people would be more likely to go to John than Marco, so that’s his outside chance. The fact that Kasich is spending his SC primary night at a rally in Worcester and a fundraiser in the Back Bay leads me to think he isn’t particularly confident about his chances there. Jeb! is done after that primary and that’s when things start to get interesting.

What happens in SC is largely immaterial to Kasich’s campaign. It’s not his voters, he’s spent almost no time there, and no one had any real expectations of him doing well there.
For him to win, he just needs to keep raising money to stay in the race, hope the nuts settle, fast, on either Trump or Ted (or, better yet, one leaves the race), and that he can win a few states on Super Tuesday.
If Kasich starts to win a few states, and Rubio and Jeb continue to… not… then the establishment will circle around Kasich, Rubio and Jeb will back out, and lots of people will hope and pray it’s enough to beat Trump, Ted or both.
Is that the bestest ever road map to victory? Heck no. He has very little chance of winning, in fact. But I actually think his chances of winning are better than Jeb’s at this point, and IMO he has a better chance of picking up a few states on Super Tuesday than Rubio (which may be just enough for the GOP establishment to go full-in on Kasich).

Indeed, I just wanted to offer gentle reminder about the gender assumptions we sometimes make here.

too seriously to endorse Trump. No surprise, they endorsed Kasich, the only guy who knows to wipe his chin if he foams at the mouth.

Seriously, spend $100M and those toenail clippers begin to make a lot of sense.
