The ONLY reason this ridiculous Beacon Hill arrogance continues is because people like you and I are too tired, distracted, intimidated, or otherwise disconnected to take a stand and do a solid for democracy. Remember when Deval Patrick was about to give Sen. Marian Walsh that cushy $175K position that was vacant for years? In just weeks, the “public firestorm” forced her to reconsider. It’s just that simple.
Galluccio’s pre-trial hearing is set for November 20th. We NEED to keep this in the news, so we are going to hold our court vigil there. There will be plenty of press. We will put the heat on two influential officials — the Plymouth District Attorney (for some reason his case was moved from Middlesex jurisdiction) and the Senate President.

Where is public outcry?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There’s no need to “market” this problem. The facts speak for themselves… the blatant, low-life crime and attempt at a cover-up, either by police, the court, or elsewhere. Galluccio has already been convicted twice, and has already had an official pardon for a DUI by former Governor Weld. Now can you help me unravel this one: Who in their right mind gives a pardon for a DUI? The self-serving legislature and the ignorant, distracted, and disenchanted public have been enabling Galluccio’s dangerous actions for far too long.
Just like how our legislature will not reform the electoral system on their own… rich, connected lawyers who act with callousness and evil in their personal lives will not be regulated by their co-workers, and sometimes even the courts. And they count on the public’s ignorance, distractedness, laziness — time and time again — to slip through the clutches of justice, and walk away scott-free. If only the public will step in and deal with it directly! What are we waiting for?
DEMAND “NO SPECIAL COURT DEAL” FOR GALLUCCIO.
The Herald makes no such claim. Got linkee? The rest of this post just seems full of hyperbole, so forgive me for doubting the claim.
<
p>This isn’t to say that Sen Galluccio’s actions have been appropriate — at best he’s guilty of hit and run; at worst he’s guilty of yet another apparent DUI.
thewatch says
You’re technically correct stomv — I used the word “paralyzed” improperly and have now corrected the text. Thank you. The child has limited mobility in his arm.
<
p>But I’m curious why you would focus on such minutia when this man still has a license to drive. He might kill the next time he hits. Talk is so cheap. Did you schedule your availability and send us your email/phone so you can empower our work? The original post is close to worthless unless folks understand that there is a time for talk and a time for action. This is the time for action. Please click the link and email info@getmyballot.com with your info.
<
p>Why would you dwell on anything other than to celebrate this long overdue call-to-action to help unify the public outrage over this dangerous and arrogant record of accidents and pardons for this Senator Galluccio — and of course, its implications for the larger problem of Beacon Hill accountability?
<
p>I’ll chalk it up to more homework needed. Here is an Op-Ed which lays out some recent history and a reasonable moral framework:
p>Politicians will continue to flout responsibility if the public does not raise hell when appropriate. Study the history of Galluccio’s misdeeds and resulting good legal fortunes and you will be satisfied that the present action is justified. Please follow the instructions in the original post and join us. The time for quibbling is over. The time for action has arrived.
You made specific statements as to your research – providing a link to google isn’t research. Opinion pieces in newspapers and blogs isn’t research either.
<
p>But interestingly enough the first link was to the BMG post concerning a public statement by the victim in the accident.
<
p>and part of that interview included:
<
p>But here you are dragging this man’s child into your political agenda.
thewatch says
I’m not sure what you mean by political agenda. Perhaps we have a public safety agenda, perhaps an “equal treatment under the law” agenda, but I think “political agenda” goes way too far. I made no mention of whether he ought to remain in office or not. In fact at this point in time I don’t see the political implications as relevant.
<
p>I don’t WANT to spend my time bringing attention to Galluccio’s heinous actions and what — if history is any guide — could become a court whitewash. Calling out this man, calling out the Plymouth DA, calling out the Senate President to ensure that Galluccio gets no special court deal — this is all just unpleasant work that needs to be done.
<
p>Unfortunately, MA citizens in general are so out of touch with their own leadership, so cynical and “hands-off”, that I feel that SOMEONE needs to respond. So, a few friends and I have volunteered our time and energy to take this on, to take a stand, to uphold justice.
Striker57, here’s some history for your review:
p>Back to the present:
<
p>Leaving the scene of an accident causing property damage is a CRIMINAL offense.
<
p>Leaving the scene of an accident causing personal injury is a CRIMINAL offense.
<
p>Source: page 8 of the Middlesex District Court’s Violation Schedule
<
p>On top of it, this guy has a record, proving that he has not corrected his criminal past. If our court system works properly, he would probably get jail time.
<
p>But if history is any guide, if we just watch from the sidelines, Galluccio could easily walk away with a special court deal, a slap on the wrist, another measly license suspension. This is why we NEED to be out there keeping the pressure on for justice.
christopher says
…deals get cut all the time. It would be easy for someone to claim that anybody could have gotten that deal and no way to prove otherwise.
farnkoff says
getting nabbed for leaving the scene of an accident with injuries (“hit-and-run”, no?), with comparable driving histories to Galluccio’s, who end up doing time. That would give the lie to the “anyone could get that deal” assertion. I don’t exactly know how to research things like that- does anyone? Perhaps the Dept of Justice website?
southstreet says
Six months to two years, huh? For “you or I?” “You” must have a pretty bad record to get that kind of time for a collision without serious bodily injury (the Herald doesn’t count as a medical expert, btw). With a clean record, most folks would likely get probation.
david says
Aye, but there’s the rub, no?
thewatch says
Yes SouthStreet, with a clean record, you’re probably on the right track in your thinking.
exercised by Senator Galluccio in this incident. And horrified by the damage to the young boy. But, the approach to justice suggested by this post demeans this site; reminds me that there are still too many, even in the progressive community, who might think vigilante justice is a good thing.
farnkoff says
Despite the relatedness of the words, I don’t think calling for a peaceful vigil is quite “vigilante justice”. If this fellow was calling for Galluccio to be beaten with rods in the street, that would be something else.
Personally I think this guy should do time, but that’s just me. Probably the penalty for a first-time “leaving the scene” should be stiffened, and should be at least as severe as a DUI. Why there would be any need for prosecutors to “cut a deal” is beyond me.
