There’s a new poll out from Rasmussen that has Coakley up 49-47, with 3% for Kennedy and 2% unsure. And Taegan Goddard says he’s heard that the same internal polling that showed Coakley up 14% a few days ago now has her up only 5%. And leaked memos and phone calls suggest that national Dems are worried.
Fortunately, BMG to the rescue: we have a poll in the field today, and we hope to have results in the next day or two. That should sort things out nicely.

We actually just want accurate data since, as you know, we leave the spinning to the Republicans on this site.

An accurate poll, even one that predicts a Brown victory, does more to help your image than one thats far off in predicting a Coakley win.

…how about we go make phone calls to get people to the polls…the list of options is here.

at how poorley Coakley’s campaign has been run. I agree that we should be doing something to change the polls rather than talking about them. But GAWD! how in the world did her campaign allow for it to get this close (and I do blame the campaign team more than the candidate, because I think she is intelligent, well spoken, and everyone under the sun said it was her campaign to loose)?
<
p>Just think, compared to Brown:
She had statewide name rec.
She had more money.
She had the opportunity to run an actual campaign (instead of having to deal with Jack E Robinson) against other well known candidates, debating issues, holding rallies, etc.
She has been running TV ads and appearing on debates for months before Brown really started to have a presence.
<
p>1.6 million registered Democrats in Massachusetts and just 490,000 Republicans!!!
<
p>Whatever the final numbers say, its gotten close enough to have this conversation, which is a terrible reflection on her campaign.
<
p>But yes! Agreed! Take your paws off those keysboards and pick up a phone and starting calling voters! Less than a week to go!

Both the Rasmussen and PPP polling outfits use pre-recorded ‘push button’ polls: that is to say, the questions are recorded and respondents key in the answer on their phones dial pad. The Globe used more ‘traditional’ operator assisted polling where a live person asks the questions and records the answers.
<
p>Given the disparities in the polls I have to think this is not coincidental and might indicate a bias in response. (I don’t know about you all, but if I was inclined to answer polls, I’d find it a true annoyance to have to answer a push button poll on my BlackBerry and/or cell…)
<
p>IN any event, I’m not given to thinking that the residents of Massachusetts, in general, are so staggeringly dumb as to vote for the second coming of George Bush, when we didn’t vote for him in the first incarnations… It beggars the imagination…

a state that had conservative governors for 16 years, and that nominated only conservative candidates (Silber – D vs Weld – R) in 1990.
petr says
Which conservatives would that be??? Bill Weld? Celluci? Hardly…
<
p>Granted, Romney is conservative (now), but pretty clearly fudged some semblance of moderation to get the governors job in Massachusetts.
<
p>So which is it? were the Repubs elected as ‘conservatives’? Or were they,at least in portraiture, left leaning?
