If we can have a question with a dozen permutations of Hispanic – why couldn’t we count this as well?

You’re never gonna gain allies for the GLBTBCA crowd with that kind of exclusivity.

the bi-curious are mere training tools for our new recruits (if you had read your copy of the Homosexual Agenda you would know this). Once we are done using the bi-curious in high school locker rooms, women’s colleges, spring break in Florida, and Vidal Sasson conventions, we give them their Bi-Curious George doll and send them on their merry way, never to be counted again.
…at least with regard to the sex/gender question. Personally, I wish they’s eliminate the racial/ethnic questions. We all count the same, don’t we? There hasn’t been a 3/5 clause in 150 years.
… this before. The point is to have the data. If the state (or anyone else) wants to evaluate the success or failure of affirmative action, or arrest rates by race, or any other evaluation – you need data. The whole point of the census is to get the data that might be useful to have for future policies. In that regard it is absolutely legitimate to include race in the census – there are race based policies out there that need evaluating. Put differently, don’t you think it would be irresponsible to create/maintain/repeal race based policies if the government didn’t collect and have data on race?

…who wants to push for “content of their character” attitude sooner rather than later.
… how do you know you’ve arrived if you don’t look for landmarks and check your direction? From where I sit, the prison statistics alone justify continuing to get the data.
… it really needs to be noted that the act of taking a census that includes race isn’t an act of ‘judging based on race’. Quite differently, it’s an attempt to judge ourselves judging race,… and in the elementary way, by looking collecting good data. This is the same thing as collecting sexual activity data from children in schools – collecting the data isn’t a judgment on a particular school’s moral character. The data is just good to have for policy making.

I don’t want to get in trouble with the Federal Government though as I just received an “Emergency” message by telephone from Mayor Menino’s office about returning my census form.

Just not my issue. I can’t see why LGBT’s couldn’t work for the Census Bureau.

I assume that married same-sex couples in MA will be answering “married” to the relevant questions!

1) As David alludes, we in MA can register as married AND the census is going to count them (SSM marriages)! This is a welcome reversal.

p>2) The census has a nice online tracker.
