This is too big for me. There is only one person who can pull this off. The Honorable David Portnoy aka “El Prez” is the only one alive who can rally the troops. I will petition his Court and if he approves request a just remedy.
He may beat me down Sonny Corleone style. I may come back a wounded rebel. The risk I must take for freedom.
To the Honorable David Portnoy, aka “El Prez”:
Larry Lucchino, Tom Werner and John Henry have delivered for us. Two, count them two, World Series. We can never take that away from them. But sir, some of us on occasion have felt drips of urine leaking from the owners’ box and running down our faces. When the Red Sox announced there would not be an Opening Day in Boston this year it felt as if we were hit with a fire hose of urine and Larry, Tom, John, and Bud were holding it.
We have in the past accepted the specious arguments, the subtle back stabbing, and pervasive manipulation of a sycophant media. As such, we were not surprised when Larry unleashed a P.R. campaign last week declaring he was the guy that went down dying fighting for one of Boston’s greatest traditions.
Opening Day in Boston has always been the hack holiday for the common man. Skip work, call in sick, and skip school. Whatever. You don’t have to go to the game. Non-baseball fans get more enjoyment out of Opening Day then non marathon fans get out of the Boston Marathon. The Bean Pot is a joke for anyone not affiliated with those schools. Nothing against the Bean Pot.
But Opening Day? These carpet baggers have gotten rid of it because they can make a few extra bucks on a Sunday night.
Therefore, I humbly ask you to call for a television boycott after the first inning of the Opening Night game between the “sports best rivalry” at “America’s most loved ballpark”.
Hit them in the pockets. Perhaps find a lame TV show on at the same time and encourage everyone to turn their TVs on to that instead. Screw with local ratings. Let people watch introductions and the first inning perhaps. But station should be changed before 9:00
Killing Opening Day was a “let them eat cake” moment. You Sir are our only hope. Please call for a boycott or protest or action which you deem most effective and efficient. You speak the truth and you have a trusting and vast flock.
May I also humbly suggest a radio boycott and encourage people to instead listen to 98.5. With you on it of course.
You may wish to go further and encourage people who go to the game to leave after the 6th inning or something. A lot of red seats on national TV after 9:30. And don’t buy anything a concession.
The message of course is to bring back Opening Day. It had been “ours” for a long time. Now it’s gone.

It’s not in the Red Sox financial interest to open on Sunday night, nor is it in their interest to open against the MFY. The Sox usually open against a crappy team on a Tuesday. They sell out that game (as they have for the last 500 plus games). Sunday against the Evil Empire doesn’t sell more hats or jerseys than Tuesday opening day against the Blue Jays. The Sox are being forced to do this by MLB and ESPN. Think before you post.

The Red Sox have clout within baseball (by that I mean way up Steroid Bud Selig’s ass and vice versa) to prevent this from happening.
<
p>The Red Sox had 2 opportunities.
<
p>1. To put them as an exception to the Sunday Night Home opener in any TV/radio contracts etc.
<
p>2. Use their clout within Commissioner’s Office so as not to be scheduled for home opener other than weekday afternoon.
<
p>C’mon Jim, think before you post.
<
p>What else does Larry want you to say?
