So when’s the get-together we should have and at what establishment dedicated to the imbibing of the fruits of fermentation? After the election, but before the holidays turn up the crazy again, seems a natural temporal LaGrange point.
Please share widely!
7 PM. See you there!
… get over there tonight, but no guarantees on such short notice. đŸ˜‰
<
p>I was sort of hoping one of the editors would grab this idea and take charge – setting it up for some time next week hopefully, giving people at least a little advanced notice.
More for my local Dems than a BMG thing. In my experience things happen when you make them happen! We need to get the BlogLeft crowd together. So Mr. Lynne, pick something that works for you, mabye for Lynne as well. If you build it, they will come.
We had 41 people tonight!
…closer to home for you Greater Lowell Area Democrats is having an informal special meeting tomorrow, Sat. 11/6 at 8AM at the Chelmsford Radisson to debrief and celebrate the election.
But their damn meetings are WAY TOO DAMN EARLY on Saturdays.
<
p>If they want to pull in more of us from the new guard, they ought to start by putting the GLAD meetings at 9, 9:30, etc.
<
p>I tried for a while to attend, it just doesn’t work for me. Hell, just staying up for Bill Maher on Friday nights is enough to make getting ready for an 8am GLAD meeting impossible…
…would appear to condone drinking while posting…and by VIKINGS, no less!
<
p>Please, as we head into the holiday season, remember – Friends don’t let friends blog drunk – unless they are progressives…
(Did I just volunteer myself? I hope not.)
Wednesday the 17th or Monday the 22nd… selfishly because I’m leaving in a few hours and wont return until late on the 16th. But also because it will give everyone plenty of advanced notice to plan for it. I’m happy to carpool from the Boston area depending upon where we decide to have it.
I could come on that date!
depending on Commuter rail.
My days/ places/ times to get together are limited by work and trains schedule.
<
p>I would love to attend a get together at “Phoenicia” on Cambridge St some nigh — to catch up in person
<
p>Good lite lebanese food and beer– lots of privacy
<
p>for me Thurday evening after work at Phonecias or another bar near MGH would be a possible time to get together.
<
p>
if it’s on the MBTA subway. It quickly falls to zero should it happen beyond that area.
Posts and comments you’ve made in the past almost make you sound viscerally anti-car.
I don’t know about stomv.
<
p>Speaking for myself, when I contemplate attending an event that involves alcohol I strongly avoid anything that requires me to drive. It wouldn’t surprise me if stomv is coming from a similar place.
On all counts.
Some of us live outside of metro Boston, right?
Yes, of course I do.
<
p>I’m just saying that when I drive, I don’t drink. So if the contemplated event is “dedicated to the imbibing of the fruits of fermentation” — and I heartily enjoy such events — then I have a strong preference for locations that are convenient to public transportation.
on the commuter rail somewhere? Say…Lowell? đŸ˜‰
I was relating his comment to others he’s made previously in the context of discussions on the gas tax and suburban sprawl. I get the sense that in his perfect world cars would be completely unnecessary and he has IMO come across as a little judgemental of those of us who regularly drive.
… get you đŸ™‚
It sounds like we are talking about 11/22. Early Thanksgiving week is a great time for this kind of event.
<
p>Do we have a solid usggestion that is both MBTA accessible and good parking for those of us who live in places like Westborough. Yes, there is such a place and forty-one Democrats gathered there last night!
with Senator Jamie Eldridge and State Representative Jen Benson and more hopefully –
7:30 at the Boxborough Holiday Inn Tuesday November 9.
<
p>Its right off the 495 in Boxborough and transportation can be arranged from the Acton Commuter Rail Station.
<
p>Lots of food, drink, and great activists.
Let’s suppose I tried to actually USE the commuter rail to attend this.
<
p>I work in Cambridge. In order to get to a 7:30p event Boxborough, my latest option is the 5:50 departure from Porter Square, arriving South Acton at 6:39p. On my return, I choose between a departure at 8:59p and at 11:00p. The ride between Boxborough and the South Acton station is about half an hour, door to door (maybe 20 minutes). So I’m going to leave the event at 8:30p to catch the early train home (one hour) or 10:30p to catch the late train (three hours). Those get me to Porter Square at either 9:41p or 11:37. So I’m looking at four or six elapsed hours to spend one or three hours among friends.
<
p>This is why city people like me either don’t attend suburban events or end up driving (drunk or sober).
<
p>The event would be great. Sadly, the location is a non-starter for me.
at 6:35 and arrives S. Acton 7:24 10 minute drive to Holiday Inn according to mapquest. Let me know if you need a ride.
My point was to highlight the pressing need for more frequent commuter rail service, not to in any way detract from your event.
<
p>It sounds like a great evening, I wish all of you the best.
If the government wants us to use the commuter rail services more, then they really have to do a better job providing better service (more frequent trains).
…the only realistic choice is to drive, which is fine with me because I prefer independence to transit schedules, wait times, parking etc. I don’t drink so for me that particular point is moot at least in terms of my own ability to drive. Unfortunately I have another commitment that night so won’t be there anyway.
Boston is a pain in the butt for me that can cost me a 1/2 of work and I am self employed, more or less fee for service; sounds like being organized enough to carpool is the winning ticket.
after work. at an MBTA accessible Boston get-together. This works best for me during the work week..
<
p>I like Phoenica on Cambridge ST. Relxaed. on Redline. Can drink and pick on Lebanese food for hours. I like Phonicia for hassle-free meet ups
<
p>This works best for me on weekdays.
<
p> Newburyport/Haverhill/Ipswich area works best for me on weekends
… by the editors so we can continue to plan.
<
p>Let’s stipulate that it will be Monday the 22nd. (Any editors going to weigh in on this anytime?)
<
p>Let’s also stipulate that it should be T accessible, just because I think we’ll get better numbers than if not.
<
p>Any thoughts to a location? Any vehement disagreements about time and general location?
<
p>Let’s figure out an answer to this by, say, Thursday at the latest so people can plan their lives. đŸ™‚
<
p>Cheers.
… never got bumped and with my concert I’ve been too busy to organize this (which is why I was hoping an editor would have taken this and run with it). It never got bumped either so most people probably forgot about it at this point.
<
p>Cest la vie
I just don’t know the Boston bar scene well enough to pick a place that meets MY needs (parking) and is T accessible. I’ll be there (where ever there is). It would be great to see you and Lynne and maybe Ryan and Deb.
… wound up scheduling herself into a conflict for tomorrow night anyway. We’ll have to set something up at a different time. Will try again.
THX
