Murray Waas continues to do some of the most interesting reporting on Novak-Plame-gate. Today he reports both in the National Journal and on his own blog that Karl Rove has been lying his ass off to the President, as well as to everyone else in sight. Good reading.
However, Waas does make one mistake: he says that "by law, a government official can be prosecuted only if he or she knew of a person’s covert status and if ‘the information disclosed so identifies such covert agent.’" Waas is of course talking about the very narrow Intelligence Identities Protection Act of 1982, which most have assumed is the only statute in play in this case. But, as we explained yesterday, sources close to the Plame investigation have confirmed that the special prosecutor is also considering using the much broader Espionage Act to bring indictments in this case. A cautionary tale: always check Blue Mass. Group first!
