Apparently, state Republicans have nothing better to do with their financial resources than print up fake Reilly-St. Fleur bumper stickers and hand them out at the State House. Said Healey aide and would-be wag Tim O’Brien, “You never know, it may be worth something on eBay.” Geez, Tim, 24 hours and that’s the best line you can come up with?
Meanwhile, the Reilly campaign has attempted to remove all traces of the St. Fleur fiasco from its website. But, for the nostalgia fans among us, there’s always that pesky Google cache!

Very funny by the Republicans.

I sit here everyday watching the Democrats kill our chances at winning the Governorâs office.
After being in Public Office his entire life, Reilly seems to have missed every opportunity to learn anything about politicsâ¦After spending a life time as a lawyer for Multi-National corporations (including oil giant TEXACO) and a short stint in the Clinton administration, Duval Patrick missed every opportunity to learn about government and policies.

After 20 years of losing, you would think that our party would learnâ¦
Right now I am sitting back praying to god that someone else jumps into this race.

Capuano??? Galvin???

That would be niceâ¦maybe we could winâ¦

Personally, I think we need to DRAFT MARTHA COAKLEY!!!
<

Lets not take no for an answer, lets get her on the ballot. All we need is the signature of 500 delegates. Thatâs not even 10% of themâ¦how hard can that be? Unless we want Gov. Kerry Healey for the next 4-8 years lets DRAFT MARTHA COAKLEY!

If we lose this election, again, because we are stupid, I think I am going to move to a red state so at least I can blame the Republicans for why we lose!!!!

I really don’t get it about this “draft Coakley” stuff. First of all, we’ve already got Deval Patrick, who’s a perfectly good candidate and has been building up a statewide campaign. Second, Martha Coakley is already running for another office which she’s very well suited for, and has made no indication that she’d consider changing her mind. And even if she were to consider it, most of the caucuses are tomorrow, and they’re going to mostly elect Reilly and Patrick delegates. So, it’s both unnecessary, and impractical. I almost think someone just got several bluemassgroup accounts to play a prank – because if that’s not the explanation for this, then what is?

Yes, this is silly, silly speculation. Aside from the practical problems about delegate slates for Reilly and Patrick not allowing this to happen and the fact that with little money or campaign organization it is WAY to late for her to join the race…at best Coakley has a PROMISING future. I emphasis PROMISING because, like Reilly, she is relativity untested in the electoral arena. She lost a state reps race years ago. She had token opposition running for DA 8 years ago–after riding a wave of publicity with the British Nanny case–and now it looks like she has a cake walk for AG (a free ride for the nomination and so far nothing from the Republicans).

She’s untested…or to be more accurate, she lost the only tough race she had…state rep.
<

When you think about it, this is Reilly’s problem. Except for Lois Pines in the ’98 Primary, what tough race has he had? Even that was not a top ten primary battle (Kennedy/McCormick, Dukakis/King, Belloti/Silber…).

No Tom Reilly’s problem, as he admitted yesterday, is that politics is not his bag. And I fear Coakley has the same baggage…they certainly have similar career paths.

That while one couild argue that Deval Patrick has also not been battle-tested, he has thus far demonstrated a far better campaign than Reilly has. Whether this is a testament to Deval’s own political savvy or his ability to pick smart people to run his campaign is irrelevant: the facts are on the ground, and he seems to be doing a good job. In my mind this is a good sign of good things to come.
