Dept. of Self-Correction: Menendez not done thinkin’

March 17, 2006 By Charley on the MTA

The National Journal’s Hotline would seem to be right to correct one of our user posts which repeated the assertion that Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey is on board with Feingold’s censure resolution. To be fair to the user, it seems his info came from Jane Hamsher at firedoglake.

Here’s Menendez speaking for himself:

“I think we’ve got to get the facts first,” Sen. Robert Menendez said. “One of the challenges is getting the oversight necessary so the facts can become public. … If the facts rise to that the president has violated the law, then [censure] may be an appropriate action of the Congress.”

So, put him down as a definite maybe.

And thanks to Hotline for setting us straight.

the article puts us right after liberal superstar blog MyDD in the list of blogs that screwed this up!

It’s like the old joke about the violist who comes home to find his house on fire and his wife and kids beaten up.  The violist asks one of the firefighters what happened, and the firefighter tells him that the conductor of the orchestra in which the violist plays was so angry with him that he arrived in a rage, torched the house, and beat up his family.

To which the violist replies: “Really?  The conductor came to my house?”

Ba-dum-bum!  Thanks, I’m here all week!

Seriously, it’s one of the more flattering smackdowns we’ve received.

I’ll take full credit for that :). Wow, I guess the site gets more recognition for inaccuracy than accuracy. I should post some more incorrect posts to help boost the site’s hits.

More seriously, I’ll make sure to better verify these things in the future.
