Personally, I’m not sure why we’re still talking about this. Does getting all upset over a Supreme Court Justice declaring that he doesn’t care whether people don’t like him (after all, do we really want judges to be concerned with whether their rulings are politically popular at the moment?) do anything but make us look like the whiny, irrelevant, ineffectual would-be PC police that conservative talk-radio hosts love to claim liberals are?

OK, so Scalia made a gesture in declaring that he wasn’t bothered by critics. It was a rude and dismissive gesture, and depending on your interpretation it may also have been obscene. He did this in a church, so it was fairly inappropriate. He may also have said something very rude in Italian.
