Check it out. Is this the first cable TV ad for a state legislative race this year?

Interesting. Takes advantage of all the South End barred windows to say “why are the families behind bars?”

What was your reaction, Amicus?

What this ad says to me is that she wants to play on fear as a campaign message. It’s not talking about crime, specifically – it’s the way she’s doing it in this ad. Then add the fact that it’s 100% emotion and 0% substance (as opposed to a more sensible 80/20 mix), and what I see from this ad is that she is running like a Republican, even if she is also seeking the Democratic nomination.

If I lived in the district and were undecided, this ad would make me recoil, and put her at the bottom of my list. I’m probably not her target, so that may not mean much.

It’s obvious that a poll was done and crime came out on top. She’s about as animated as Ben Stein so I’d say it’s a bad ad. But when all is said and done she’s probably a better candidate. I doubt the ad will have much influence.

beyond that you’d never consider an “R”… i’m also assuming without of course knowing that your district has fewer shootings and perhaps the issue overall doesn’t resonate with you that much….i think it might be effective with some voters there. there IS fear there.

where’s the line b/w “playing on” it and acknowleging that the fear is valid emotional response to a spree of shootings?
<

agreed – 80/20 mix might be more sensible. zero beef. i like beef.

still, we’re talking about a cable ad with tiny tiny buy, trying to get 2000 people to remember her name, not going to get the 8 “impressions” or whatever that a normal buy vies for.

don’t you think it’s a decent idea to keep it 100% something, anything, in that situation?

how would bonifaz answer this question, if he beats galvin?
amicus says
If ever.
