Given the events of the last few days, Here are 4 things I’d want Deval to say/do now:
1. To be truly tough on crime, you have to have strong laws, the resources to enforce them, and the abilty to make sure court system is working fairly. The Romney administration has been great on photo-ops for passing tough laws, but has cut the funds to enforce them. Does this really make us any safer?
2. I will never apolgize for acting to make sure the system is working fairly. If one person can be be convicted in a case with many iregualarities, any of us can. Of course, we should investigate.
3. Being curious about how the system is working and trying to find out is never a crime. Had this administration been more curious about things like the Big Dig, we would all be better off.
4. The Healy campaign so far has been like junk food. It appeals to quick impulses and relies on voters not questioning their half truths and simplifications. For example, Healy has made a number of proposals that will cost money, but has not said one word about how she would pay for them, never mind cut taxes, too. She talks about illegal immigration, but has not tried to make sure that the state hasn’t employed these people. She talks about improving education, but has cut local aid towns need for those schools. Like junk food, it isn’t what we really need. We deserve better leadership.
