What I think is most breathtaking about this story is the way that they manage to blame a black man (Patrick) for the death of a white police officer (who was shot by a white man.) even though it all occurred long before Deval had any involvement in the case. It describes the crime in excrutiating detail but says almost nothing about the trial and the appeal. The whole thing is crafted to make it look like somehow the victim’s family’s pain is all Deval’s fault, that Deval somehow got a cop-killer sprung (though the killer has already been denied parole and looks like a very poor bet for any future chance at parole). They repeat the despicable Healy tagline “would we really want one as our governor?” (though the “one” here refers to lawyers, I don’t think it takes too much reading between the lines to see it as a sidelong way to refer to Deval’s race). Evidently someone like Deval would have no chance here in Florida, where people still mourn the passing of “ole Sparky” now that lethal injection is the order of the day.
Many of us who do not have the experience of being African American shake our heads when we hear how a black man can’t catch a break no matter what he does, and this piece is a prime example of why so many in the black community feel that way. All I can say is that Floridians ought to be ashamed (but of course, most aren’t). Please, somebody reassure me that Kerry Healey is still going down, hard, this November.

And we’re doing our best to help her on her way. The latest polls show her down by double digits.

Please encourage anyone in Florida who is influenced by this “newspaper” to divert all their campaign contributions from FL Republicans in close congressional races to Kerry Healey, Beverly, MA. Seeing Healey-approved racism every other commercial isn’t making her any friends, but maybe if it were every commercial it would work. (Actually, her personal fortune makes the amount of contributions she gets moot.) Besides, we’re still trying to find a state worthy of her love; maybe Florida is it.

and comiserate with “Kooky Katherine” Harris after they both lose. They seem to have a lot in common…large fortunes, little accomplishments…I can just see them going shopping together. Maybe Kerry can help Katherine pick some more tasteful dresses…

If Kerry helps Katherine Harris with her wardrobe, in exchange, maybe Katherine can help Kerry with her makeup ?

At least there is one thing Romney, Healey and Harris agree on:

Needs to read this op-ed piece by Sam Harris.

I love how the headline “Far-off governor’s race painfully revisits Florida trooper’s killing” completely ignores the fact that it wouldn’t have been “revisited” at all if she hadn’t brought it up. As if he was forcing everyone to revisit it, not her.

And the ad is described as “gritty” instead of “despicable, cowardly fear-mongering garbage”.

She’s not only going down hard, she might melt into a puddle like the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz, moaning “What a world, what a world”…

I would like to point out a few things about this story. I had looked up a bit about Tom Hogan Junior, the attorney in Florida. It turns out Thomas Hogan, Senior, his father, is a prominent Republican in that area who currently holds a seat on the Hernando County Commission (appointed by Jeb Bush to fill an empty seat) and has been referred to as “one of the most respected Republican leaders in Hernando County” as recently as yesterday in the Republican blog
“Hernando County Concerned Citizens.”
