The Boston Globe writes about the possible candidates to succeed James Kelly, the city councillor from Southie, Chinatown, and the South End. Here’s a paragraph pertaining to State Representative Brian P. Wallace, who endorsed Kerry Muffy Healey nine days before the election.
State Representative Brian P. Wallace, a Democrat from South Boston who had been mentioned as a possible successor, said yesterday that he would “absolutely not” join the fray. “I think I can be more effective at the State House, where I’m working on substance abuse issues, rather than jumping to City Hall,” he said.

It makes total sense for Rep. Wallace to remain in the House to work on substance abuse issues, which are a huge issue in the neighborhood. The State has the vast bulk of the resources that can be committed to treatment, so that’s the place for him to be if that’s what he wants to focus on.

I totally disagree with his endorsement of the Lt. Gov, but in fact, she did partner with Senators Tolman and McGee and Rep. Wallace on some helpful measures. Here’s one:
