add another fee on to people convicted of crimes. On top of probation fees and fines, if any.
Usually the most vulnerable non-violent extremely poor are the onbes carrying this.
I would have expected Deval to be more sensitive to something like this.

Mitt and Muffy argued against imposing a fee on sex offenders to fund the registry. The lege was pushing for the fee and our boy Mitt thought it was too much of a hardship on the sex offenders and vetoed. The lege overrode each years veto.

I like Deval but this idea sucks. Prison rights groups are speaking out. Prisoners make about $1.50 a day – it will be their families who end up paying this fee.

I’ll guess that a huge percentage of this “safety fee” will come from more expensive speeding tickets and other vehicle violations.

Make it a license-to-speed rather than a fee-for-speeding. Budget problem solved!
