Maybe I do not understand campaign accounts

January 28, 2007 By AmberPaw

I just found out that $250,000 from Thomas Finneran’s campaign finance account went for legal fees to fight his indictment for perjury and obstructing justice.

See http://news.bostonhe…

First, I did not know that my political contributions could be used that way.  Did you? I am thinking that campaign donations should not be usable to fight corruption or felony charges.  But maybe I am just naive.  My thanks for this report by Dave Wedge.

On the other hand, Wedge shared more information about Romney than I had any desire to know.

Please share widely!

    from Tom Delay!

If you recall, Tom Delay ran and won his primary in Texas in 2006. He was at a fundraiser the night of the primary — not doing sweaty GOTV to make sure he won. Subsequently he dropped out of the race. Why? So he could collect campaign funds to be used for his legal expenses.

    Amber,
Since it is safe to assume you did not contribute to Speaker Finneran’s campaign, not a cent of your money is involved.

    <

    p>
I doubt that many of his actual contributors will be asking for refunds.

    <

    p>
If you enjoy spending time scouring campaign finance reports, rather than beating a very dead and disgraced horse, the current and active herd in the stable might provide better entertainment… to see who is supporting/ underwriting/ influencing your own favorite nags…

    <

    p>
If you peruse both the contributions and expenditures, you may find that your own hero is not living up to your standards…asking for a refund or posting on BMG is always an option…

Not a bad idea.  Do stay tuned.  But what YOU might find might surprise you, as well.

I think that so long as the expense is related to one holding public office, it is kosher.

The OCPF website isn’t fantastic, but I think that because the lawsuit related to official actions and involved the Speaker’s “political future” (seems to be their operative phrase) that it is acceptable.

So this money can be used to take 10 other legislators out for lobster – to enhance one’s political future – but not to rent a car?  Someone keep helping me out with understanding this whole algorithmn…

    Yeah

I think any scum bag (on either side of the Isle) should not be tolerated.  And Finneran is the kind of scum bag that would take your donation to finance his legal defence.

    <

    p>
But take comfort in this.  Finneran because he is broke and needs money to cover his lawyer fees, has no choice but to work on Republican Radio in Boston.  He is on channel 680 AM radio – the only people that feal sorry enough for the guy to offer him a job.  Currently he serves as our dart board.  Basically his function on the show is to be laughed at and rideculed by republicans for 4 hous a day.  It really makes me feal good.  : )

Keeping the right to VOTE?  Doesn’t his FELONY conviction pretty much PRECLUDE a political future?

    <

    p>
What am I taking about, he belongs to the Party of Wilkerson and Asselin, it’s only REPUBLICANS that are ruined by convictions….

Can’t wait to make fun of Finneran.  Starting Feb 12 2007 he will be on for 4 hours a day on 680 AM Talk Radio.  And I love how this is playing out.

        It goes like this . . .

        <

        p>
1.) The man lost his $400K salary / job
2.) Then his Lic to practice law is now on freeze
3.) Looks like he will be disbarred (no more career in law)

        <

        p>
4.) And this is the best.  Because this guy has to feed his family he is taking the only job that was offered to him . . . Being a DJ on Right Wing Radio (680 AM) where he will be laughed at and rideculed on a daily basis.

        <

        p>
Yes – and he will take it if he wants to feed the kids at home.  HA HA AHA HAAH HAA HAAA

        <

        p>
OH It makes me feal good inside.  YEAH!!! !
