Thank goodness for Adrian Walker, the one columnist at the Globe (or should it be the Gotcha?) who was able to put the Deval/Cadillac story in perspective. Without hiding the elements of pride and vanity that probably entered into Patrik’s decision, Walker was able to refrain from making unsubstantiated leaps of judgment about what the car decision says about the Patrick administration.
Brian McGrory, on the other hand, enthusiastically jumped into the pits that Walker deftly avoided. In addition to the Cadillac decision, McGrory drags up the inaugural celebration and other issues and just about declares the Patrick administration, not yet 2 months old, a failure. Like Joan Vennochi, with her invisible Deval column last week, the Globe now has two outstanding candidates for this year’s ADD journalism award. I have had some reservations about a few of the actions of the Patrick administration. The wide spread petulance that has characterized the region’s leading (though failing) paper is beyond the pale.
