Moyers and Stewart

April 28, 2007 By Charley on the MTA

If you’re looking for something both fun and edifying to look at on the internets, here’s Bill Moyers interviewing Jon Stewart, which broadcast last night on PBS. We know Stewart is funny, but the thing that makes him so appealing is how clearly, concisely and powerfully he expresses important ideas.

Have fun.

Was it a coincidence that Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice appeared on the Sunday talkshows the same day that a story leaked to the New York Times warning that Saddam was on a worldwide hunt for nuclear weapon materials? Doubtful:

The fraud that was manufactured by our government officials and endorsed by our media establishment is one of the great political crimes of the last many decades. Yet those who are responsible for it have not been held accountable in the slightest. Quite the contrary, their media prominence — as Moyers demonstrates — has only increased…

Solid document on how poor the press performed in the build up to the war.  Greenwald said there are no real bombshells, but I was amazed seeing the whole case laid out so lucidly in one place.

I’ve been meaning to post something on it for a day or two, but I realized I didn’t have the time; I figured a comment in this thread would be appropriate.  If anyone plans on doing a full post on the doc, I encourage it.  PBS has the best shows, but no one sees them.  They need all the PR they can get.

…and that’s one reason why I like him.  And his sidekick Colbert is an excellent satirist.

Bill Moyers used to host, with David Bron…. (I won’t even try to spell his last name) a weekly show on PBS Now.  The pair were excellent.  I was taken by how good an interviewer Moyers actually was (and is).  It’s sad that PBS has cut Now to down to about 20 minutes (it used to be an hour), but it’s nice that Moyers is back.

Oh…. Mr. Holden town leader…. what you do not understand is that MBTA Communities is not just a housing law, but a survey of resistance.

In ten years, your town will have lost its control over housing. Over this decade, #mapoli will slowly re-establish control of all zoning.

    Rus Lodi @ruslodi

Losing local control of zoning was a major sticking point in the discussions.

“We’re not saying we’re against multifamily housing. We’re going to grow — it’s saying we’re not going to be strongarmed into something by the state," said one member. 2/7
