is reporting that Senator Evan Bayh, former Democratic contender for President, will endorse Sen. Hillary Clinton on Monday, Sept. 24.
Do you think he is vying for the VP nod with the possibility of turning midwest from red to blue…
If Clinton wins the nomination, how could she bypass Richardson (with the resume and the western state appeal)for Bayh?
One thing is fairly certain. Obama has as much chance as Kucinich to be tapped for VP.

I think it would have to be a mystery candidate who follows this profile:
<
p>
white
male
strong national security background
South and/or Mountain West background
outside the Senate and probably House
<
p>
That leaves out everyone on that list. What about Wes Clark?
pablo says
From the list, Richardson is the most likely (governor, swing western state), but he would need to strengthen his campaigning skills to get there.
<

Wes Clark is a logical choice (southern, military). Male swing state governors would be at the top of my list. Strickland (OH) is a possibility.

Richardson’s a bad campaigner, plus he’s Hispanic. I have trouble seeing a ticket without a white male on it winning.
joeltpatterson says
He’s an Arkansan. Pres and Veep must be from different states.
<

Cheney was living in Texas when he joined the 2000 ticket, he just switched his voter registration back to Wyoming before the convention. So Wes would have to do something similar.
<

But I think he’d be a good SecDef or SecState, too.

What state does Hillary Clinton represent again?
laurel says
Have you seen this? I hadn’t heard of the Fellowship before.

Hillary’s not from Arkansas anymore. But we can’t have a Clinton/Bloomberg or Clinton/Spitzer ticket. Which is too bad, in a way!
sabutai says
It’s a massive pain in the shmuckus renewing my license when I have a new address in the same county, but Cheney and Clinton can change their home state virtually overnight. Must be nice to be connected.

What does Vilsack bring electorally or to the ticket? A firmer hold on the Midwest? I’m not being dismissive, but genuinely curious.

I’d love to see Clinton/Webb. In other pairings:
Obama/Webb or Obama/Schweitzer
Edwards/Richardson or Edwards/Tester
Richardson/Edwards or Richardson/Spitzer

How many electoral votes would Obama add to the ticket that Hillary wouldn’t get on her own?
joeltpatterson says
Hillary’s going to need as many Dems in the Senate as possible to get her legislation passed. So Bayh, Webb, and other red-state Dems are staying put.

I recall that early in Bill Clinton’s admininstration, he had to limit the number of Congressional Dems he could appoint to his cabinet for fear of losing votes in the House and Senate. Hilllary seems to be keen to learn from her husband’s errors.

Would be nice to have someone affiliated with running the executive branch who actually knows what they are doing.
