I have this image in my head.
It comes from some years ago at camp. We were firing different high power rifles into close range targets, about say 30 meters. A plastic 2 liter container full of water explodes violently when hit with a .223 caliber AR-18. The M1 Garand does the same thing only with more violence. Both rifles do pack some serious kick so you best have the dam thing planted solidly on your shoulder. Incredibly powerful, very loud and awesome destruction these weapons have.
On Friday here in the US we did have another “incident”. Of all places, Logan Airport.
The incident was dutifully picked up by media who once again advanced the meme of “post 911 world”. At the press conference the cops said “She is lucky she complied with our instructions, otherwise she would be in the morgue”. Jay Sevrein jumped upon the story citing how “normal” and “justified” the police were in their actions and some even questioned why the police did not “shoot first and ask questions later”. Such bravado in the name of “security”.
The “news” footage also featured state police toting some of the very same weapons I outlined before. My concern is that in a crowded setting such as an airport who is to say these bullets don’t pass through five people in addition to their target.
Grateful Iraqis are not knocking at my door carrying tanks of gas at 50 cents.
My daughter thinks my mother is cheap because they scared the living shit out of her with a seven year “lookback” nursing home entrance crap. My 20 year career is shit because nobody can make anything in the US.
I have the receipt for my first doctor’s office visit co-pay plus a bill for the very same co-pay from Guido’s Health Insurance Company.
So in conclusion do I support the police in their ever increasing fascistic persuits in the war on terra?
I most certainly do not. Security has not and should not be the very soul of America.

Where the heck did you go to camp? When I went to camp as a kid, we only shot .22s.

Are you sure it was an AR-18? The AR-18 was a prototype and the civilian, semi-automatic version was designated the AR-180. They aren’t nearly as common as the AR-15.

A true AR-18 is select-fire (auto and semi).

fully explain camp, lest I identify myself. Other than to say there was nothing nefarious about it, just a group of hunters in the woods trying out hardware. And yes 18 has to be wrong as it was not full automatic.

I am going against “popular opinion” on this one and quote my Russian boss. “This is the second socialist country I’ve lived in”. He is correct. In the US the culture is manufactured in such a way as to make people think they are “free” but it is not the reality.
