Insurgent Candidates ‘R’ Us

June 25, 2008 By nodrumlins

Last evening, I sent notes to the campaigns of Bob Feuer, who is running in the Democratic primary against Congressman John Olver, and Ed O'Reilly, who is trying to unseat Senator John Kerry. We're looking to host forums here in Sterling with all of the candidates on the primary ballot this September and I volunteered to send invitations.

Here is the response I got from the Feuer campaign:

Thank you for your interest in my U.S. Congress Campaign! I continue to be flooded with messages from those who are ready for a change in leadership. Your interest is important to me. My staff and I are working tirelessly in responding to each message personally. Thank you for your patience.

Gratefully,

Bob Feuer for Congress

And moments later, this reply from Ed O'Reilly's organization:

Thank you for your interest in the my U.S. Senate Campaign! I continue to be flooded with messages from fellow Massachusetts constituents ready for a change in leadership. Your interest is important to me. My staff and I are working tirelessly in responding to each message personally. Thank you for your patience.

Gratefully,

Ed O'Reilly
“A Massachusetts Democrat for the U.S. Senate”

Apparently if you are running against an entrenched incumbent, you get a handy dandy campaign kit that includes a standard email auto-reply.

Ed mentions Massachusetts twice in his reply, while Bob doesn’t mention it once.  I think we all know who is clearly more patriotic.

that congress, the vp and prez use.  i’ve rarely received an email reply from someone above the state level that didn’t smack of template.  i’m happy to say that both of my MA state reps at the time, Marzilli and Kaufman, always wrote personal replies.

I’m sure you got an immediate personal response from the incumbents, right?  Did you get anything from them?

Missing In Action except at election time.  Let’s give the real progressives a fair hearing.
