Woburn Mayor, Local Officials Choose Hurd over Donnelly

August 24, 2008 By equalopportunist

Former Mayor of Woburn, John Curran, is the latest local official who has come forward endorsing Jack Hurd over Ken Donnelly.  Jack Hurd’s proven accomplishments: solving local issues as Arlington Selectman, leading by example with his special needs skating program, and record and commitment to progressive causes are among the reasons for landing the endorsement.

Joining Curran are:

State Representative Charley Murphy (Bedford, Burlington and Wilmington);

Former State Representative Joseph Daly;

Town Moderator of Burlington Phil Gallagher;

Town Moderator of Arlington John Leone;

Woburn Alderman Scott Galvin;

Former Town Treasurer of Arlington John Bilafer;

Arlington School Committee Denise Burns;

Arlington School Committee Joe Curran;

Arlington Selectman Kevin Greeley,;

Former Selectman of Arlington Charles Lyons;

Former Selectman of Arlington Harry McCabe;

Former Selectman of Arlington Kathleen Dias;

Former Selectman of Arlington Kevin Feeley;

Arlington Housing Authority Nick Mitropoulos;

Arlington Housing Authority Rich Murray;

Arlington Housing Authority Brian Greeley;

    You have the Burlington moderator…
    I’ll raise you two selectmen  (Zenkin and Fay),
    two planning board member (Cummings & Hyde),
    one housing authority member (Wilde),
    all backing Donnelly.

    <

    p>Kind of a lame attempt to show support.

    <

    p>Speaking of lame, youlist a bunch of has-been Arlington selectmen.  Looks like the current selectmen, who serve with Hurd, are going for Donnelly.  Donnelly has Clarissa Rowe and Diane Mahon.  The people who know him best, I guess, know him best.

    <

    p>Also, who is this Former State Representative Joseph Daly.  Where is he from?  Never heard of him.

      <

      p>Note that Rep. Kaufman of Lexington and Rep. Natale of Woburn have endorsed Ken Donnelly – and as a disclosure, so have I!!

      <

      p>But I see Joe Curran on Donnelly’s list of endorsements, so I think that Mr. Opportunist must misquote…

    Deb,
    What a joker!
    Please-there was nothing profound about Burlington Maul’s posting, nor mine for the matter. I’m simply putting the information out there, just as BM did. I don’t see anything lame about that. Or, maybe it’s “lame” because it shows an even split between Jack Hurd and Ken Donnelly.

    <

    p>Sure, Diane Mahon and Clarissa Rowe are supporting Donnelly, but all of the town insiders know about their political rivalry with Jack Hurd. Arlington Selectman Kevin Greeley is with Hurd and Selectman Annie Lacourt is not far behind.  So that shows yet another even split.

    <

    p>BM- Joe Daly is one of your “has been” Arlington officials.  As for Joe Curran, indeed, he is listed as an endorser for both campaigns. Perhaps he’s telling each  what they want to hear.

    <

    p>And sure, it’s quite clear the union endorsements are falling in tow to support the candidate who exclaims, “families are hurting”. I’m still supporting Hurd who has actually done something for working families rather Donnelly who cannot back up any policy statements with substance.

    <

    p>(Donnelly is a nice guy, but clearly not ready, nor experienced enough for State Senator. He should try his hand first at the local level before making the jump – kind of the way Garballey did.)

      I just discovered the discrepancy.  Arlington School Committee Joe Curran is with Donnelly (Deb, you are correct). Joe Curro is with Hurd.

      <

      p>Best,

    You can add the current Mayor McLaughlin of Woburn as another elected official endorsing Ken Donnelly.
