8th Middlesex results — the real progressive wins!!!

September 16, 2008 By metrowest-dem

Carolyn Dykema, the former head of the Holliston Planning Board, won handily over Ed Mills, who had the backing of various Boston-based unions but not the locals. The margin was 79% to 21%. Carolyn’s been backed by the Sierra Club and the Massachusetts League of Conservation Voters for her progressive thinking about community development and environmental protection. She’s smart, hardworking, and knows the needs of our district backwards and forwards.

Now we’re in for a real fight. The Republican opponent is Dan Haley, whose major claim to fame is his work as counsel to Kerry Healy. Dan’s got $55K in the bank — which is a huge amount in a suburban district. The Republicans really want to keep this district and are willing to spend to do it. (Bill Weld will be walking precincts with Dan — insert snarky comments here.)

My union proudly endorsed Ed Mills and worked hard got him. And believe him to be a “real” progressive as well.

p>My Union is in fact headquartered in Boston but represents workers throughout Massachusetts, including members and their families in the 8th Middlesex. Not sure what your point was about “Mills who had the backing of Boston-based unions”. Are you implying that because the union office isn’t in the 8th Middlesex, the union’s endorsement isn’t worth something? The Sierra Club and MLCV aren’t based in the 8th Middlesex but as with Unions, they contacted their members in the District.

p>Very odd call for unity in November by going after the Unions that backed Mills in a negative comment. If your speaking for Ms. Dykema campaign and your position is that my “Boston-based union” can’t be helpful to her in the final – that’s good information for me to pass onto all the other unions with members in the 8th.

p>Best of luck to Ms. Dykema in November.

The opinions expressed are my own and NOBODY else’s. They do not, to the best of my knowledge, in any way, shape or form, reflect any official or unofficial position or belief of the candidate, her campaign, her campaign staff, or her advisory committee.
